Resource Centre

Throughout Semester One, the Resource Centre Team has embarked on many activities to engage the young people of the Marian Community with literacy and learning.

By incorporating creativity,  our passion for reading was activated through a number of activities.

For Harmony Week we put together a world map display where students and staff could locate where on this wonderful Earth they or their ancestors lived. It was a delight to see all the places the Marian Community has come from!

During Reconciliation Week, the young people of Year 7 created their spiritual hands, which enabled them to express their understanding about reconciliation through a range of diverse perspectives. An assortment of  prizes were awarded for thoughtful and insightful pieces of art that expressed contemporary understandings of reconciliation.

As Melbourne’s Winter gets colder, it is fantastic to observe more young people make use of the Resource Centre, including reading, board games and lots of Uno. Even more enjoyable, are the conversations that the Resource Centre Team have with people from all year levels about their interests, types of genres they like to read and seeking advice about their reading choices.

Throughout term 2, inspirational members of the Marian College Leo Club collaborated with the Resource Centre Team to create an informative display of books, podcasts and films based on refugees’ experiences from a range of different cultural perspectives. The club had compiled a list of educational resources to draw attention to the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project that they are supporting at Marian College!

Just for fun, we have also held our Annual Pets Love Reading Competition this semester, in which staff and students enter a photo of their pet reading! This year we had 47 beautiful entries which is our all time record! We were all blown away by all the great photos, so it was very difficult for the staff to judge, but a huge CONGRATULATIONS to the following students, staff and their pets for winning:
