Principal's Message

The home and school partnership is so important in the growth and development of young people. In recent times there has been much research in “family-led learning” where visible strategies include:
- Recognising and believing in your child's potential – The most powerful thing parents can do is to show children they believe in them and their ability to be successful.
- Having conversations – Spending time talking assists young people to expand their knowledge and to form opinions about issues that concern them.
- Supporting children to develop positive relationships - Parents play an important role in supporting young people to develop strong and positive relationships with others by focusing on celebrating good experiences and negotiating and responding appropriately to negative ones.
- Learning together – The home and its surrounds offers many opportunities for learning, exploring new areas of interest and finding out more about their family or tradition.
- Creating a positive home learning environment – Providing a dedicated space and time to complete home learning supports to expand on the work done at school.
At Marian we have a priority to develop authentic partnerships with our community and we wish to emphasise that parents share and in fact lead in providing for the education of the students.
We aim to continue to build clear and effective partnerships with our families and the College. We encourage you to be in contact with us regarding your young person’s wellbeing and learning strengths and needs. Over the remainder of the year there will be many opportunities for parents to engage with the school especially as we move into planning for 2023. Keeping up to date with information about the processes for transition into the next year and providing advice and support to your daughter will encourage them to continue to strive to learn as well as plan for the future.
Also we ask that you take notice of the activities and events at the College and encourage your young person to be actively involved in those things that excite their interests and participate in those activities provided for you. The Seqta Engage portal, communication through Operoo and our social media platforms are all sources of information for you to be involved in the life of the school and enable conversations with your daughter.
We aim to enable other ways for our families, and the community in general, to strengthen the learning partnership. We acknowledge the wonderful cultures, traditions, experiences and stories of our parent and family community and look forward to share these gifts in some way in the life of the College.
