Year 8 Humanities
As part of our Geography unit in Term 3, some Year 8 Humanities students have worked on a creative writing piece to help them learn about landforms that make up different types of landscapes. Here, two examples of different approaches to the task are presented for your enjoyment.
Building of the pyramids
When the pyramids were built, many Egyptians had to move lots of sand dunes for the room to put the pyramids. The sand dunes were very big and it wasn’t easy to design tools to help remove the sand. Once all the sand was removed the Egyptians went to a hamada to get big stones for the pyramids. started to move the big rocks to build the pyramids. Luckily Isaac newton wasn’t born yet so he couldn’t have invented gravity yet. So, the Egyptians were very happy that the big rocks didn’t weigh anything. Pyramid production went through the roof! Many pyramids were built so were lots of dunes. Therefore, two thousand years later the city in Cairo wasn’t the same as it would have been if Isaac newton was born a few hundred years earlier. Therefore, changing the landscape of the city and desert. During the building of the pyramids the Egyptians regularly drank out of a nearby oasis that after a few years sadly dried out. Some small pyramids were built on a butte as well sometimes if the butte was big enough they could fit multiple pyramids.
