Intermediate Footballers Progress

At the end of Term 2 our Year 9 and 10 boys headed to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region football competition having advanced through the Coastal Division earlier in the term.

Luckily the rain held off for the three games the boys played, however a muddy surface meant wet weather footy was the way to go and our team adapted quickly and went on to have three impressive wins for the day.

As the overall winner on the day they will progress through to the State Quarter Finals in Term 3.

Game 1 vs Mercy College: TCC 3. 7. 25 def Mercy 3. 4. 22. Goals - Spencer Rice 2, Gus Uytdehaag 1.

Game 2 vs Emmanuel College: TCC 6. 3. 39 def Emmanuel College 1. 2. 8. Goals - Jack Skinner 4, Flynn Darroch 2.

Game 3 vs Ballarat High School: TCC 4. 4. 28 def Ballarat High 1. 3. 9. Goals - Jack Skinner 1, Kyan Genua 1, Zac McCarthy 1, Tyler Loricco 1.

Congratulations on a successful day and good luck in the state finals next term.

Greater Western Netball

Our Year 7 team had a great introduction to the Greater Western secondary championships.

They started the day well with a convincing 24 -9 win against Ballarat High School, then won their second pool game in a much closer encounter with Mercy Regional College winning 18 – 15. This put us into the Semi final against Horsham College, and while the girls had a shaky start but came away with another win.

So, our Year 7’s were into the grand final match, which decides who goes through to the State Championships in Melbourne. We were up against our archrivals in Emmanuel College Warrnambool.

The game was quite even at the beginning, then in the last 4 minutes of the first half we had a bit of a lapse and Emmanuel went into half time with a 6-goal lead. We made some positional changes and Trinity came out firing with some early intercepts and great shooting, to be 2 goals down with 1 minute to go. Unfortunately for the girls we just couldn’t quite get over the line, losing 15-13.

The girls played some great netball throughout the day. They were all very adaptable and were put into positions that they would not normally play, particularly in the grand final, where we had some match ups that were not quite working.

To their credit, they just took it in their stride and got on with the task at hand. Whilst all the girls played well, our best players throughout the day were Harmony Parker, Emmy Frith and Luella Hutchinson.

Our team consisted of Rubie Coutts, Emilie Daffy, Emmy Frith, Luella Hutchinson, Harmony Parker, Izzy Perkins, Sara Rongdit, Izzy Spence, Stella Uytdehaag and Jess Williamson.

Greater Western Soccer

Trinity’s Intermediate Girls soccer team has qualified for the School Sport Victoria State Soccer finals in August after defeating Ballarat High School (BHS) in the Greater Western region finals.

Trinity trailed early to a well taken free kick in the first half but dominated the second half with a strong wind behind their backs.

Alexis Phillips looked to dribble through the Ballarat midfield and create chances and Trinity found an equaliser early in the second half through midfielder Tara Moloney.

Tara pounced on a defensive error a short time later to put Trinity in front and completed her hat trick late in the game to seal a 3-1 victory.

The Senior boys team faced BHS in their first match and, while they defended bravely, conceded a goal in each half to lose 0-2. Tom Fish scored twice from the penalty spot in game two against Emmanuel College but a 2-4 loss meant qualification for the state finals was now out of reach.

The boys then lost entertaining matches against Terang College (0-1) and Horsham College (2-4) with Kynan Parker and Kingston Balboni finding the back of the net.

The Intermediate Boys team came up against strong opposition in the form of BHS and Emmanuel College with both teams boasting accomplished soccer players.

Trinity spent most of the game defending against BHS in a 0-7 loss, but was more composed against Emmanuel College with 0-3 the final score.

Thanks to Darren Balboni for coaching the Intermediate Boys team and best wishes to the Intermediate Girls team as they prepare for the state finals next term.
