PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Dear Families

Curriculum Day: No students

This Friday is a Curriculum Day at Chilwell. We are working with our Regional colleagues to further develop our Numeracy program. Our results in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy are excellent because firstly we prioritise the areas and secondly, due to the Professional Development and reflection of our program, we are adapting and changing the program.

The staff will be meeting off site at St Mary’s rooms which will allow us more room to facilitate break out discussions.

No students are to attend school this Friday. Child care is available but there are limits on places.

Child Care:

Due to staffing ratios (see below), bookings for care this Friday will cease tomorrow at 4. This will guarantee ratios are maintained.

Lost Property: This piles up regularly, mainly due to items not being named. After washing please check to see that the names are still visible. We have very active students who take items off and forget to reclaim. The naming helps us to return items and lowers the frustration parents feel with lost items.

Just a reminder that valuable items, be they valuable in money terms or sentiment, should not be at school. If they must come please hand these to the classroom teacher for safe keeping.

School Nurse:

Louise, our school nurse, has visited our school over the past 2 weeks responding to staff questions and screening the Preps. This is a great service which informs both staff and families. Many thanks to Louise who has a great manner with the school and the children

T-ball:

Yesterday 9 of our students represented us at the next level of the school’s T-ball competition. As always the children gave 100%, supported each other and displayed great behaviour. Thanks to Mrs Stynes who accompanied the students and coached.

Welcome:

During the year we are fortunate to host Pre Service Teachers. Currently we have Maddi Martin joining us in Mrs Eddy’s room for 4 weeks.

Welcome to our school Maddi and thank you for your support of our students.

Thank you:

This week I wish to acknowledge the contribution parents and extended family members make to our school, staff and children. Your support, whether it be at home, committees, fundraising or in the classroom is most beneficial to the whole school. The children are the ones who benefit and see your interest in their school.

Book Fair:

Thanks to Amanda G and the team of volunteers who provided this service. The supply of literature to read and share is a most important part of primary school children’s’ development both academically and mentally. Sharing books and stories with your child is a most pleasurable activity.

Debating:

Last Wednesday our 2 teams represented us in the debating competition. Both teams acquitted themselves very well, winning both debates. The next debate is an unseen one where the teams have time to prepare 30 minutes before the debate. I am sure all of we adults can appreciate the challenges in debating under these guidelines. If you have the time to join us for one or both debates I am sure you will be impressed!

Out of School Care:

Cancellations- We need all users of the program to help us regarding cancelling children out or placing children in late. The current staffing issues that we all are experiencing needs all of us to be aware of the difficulties our program experiences with both cancellations and late additions to the program.

The program runs on strict adult / child ratios and it also operates with a very tight budget.

Throughout the last 3 years we have continued the program and kept costs reasonable. Please support Cheryl and be timely with both cancellations and bookings.
