Debaters Association of Victoria Competition

Hello, my name is Edie and I have been debating since year 7. I first joined because my brothers had done and spoken highly of it, and this year, with my team members (Noah, Maddie, Ned and Esther) I have made it into the playoff, from the interschool DAV competition. We have done many debates together, but my favourite would be the last one we did with the topic 'we regret the rise of social media in fighting crime'. Although this was one of the hardest, because it was against a team who had also not lost any debates, we all came together and won. I am looking forward to the play-offs, which will be held at NHS on 1 September, and am hoping to make it into the finals, representing Northcote High School.

Year 7 debating

In other exciting developments a Year 7 team has been registered for the DAV junior competition to be run on Tuesday nights throughout August, at Ivanhoe Grammar School. In the team are  Hannah Wellard; Lucy Williams; Nefeli Michalopoulos; Samara Flint and Lani Alexander.

Public Speaking

We are looking forward to two upcoming public speaking competitions. The Year 6 event, featuring students from our local feeder schools, will run again this year, with the final being held at Northcote High School on Wednesday 12 October. The International Student public speaking competition will also be held at Northcote High School on 10 October. The topic for both competitions is ‘Moving the Goal Posts’.
