Student Services : Careers

Year 12 transition planning beings in earnest

The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) opened applications for 2023 this week.  Last week all year 12 students were briefed on transition planning and applying for courses in their extended Connect session.  Parents have also been emailed a link to the recorded presentation. Students will be focussing on transition in Connect for the remainder of the term.  We aim for all students to have the process completed by the conclusion of this term – 16 September.

Year 10s prepare for real industry job interviews (RIJI)

This term our Year 10 students are preparing for their practice job interview, which well be held on either 18 or 20 October this year.  Students will complete their pre-program survey, identify their skill sets and some career aspirations and work on their draft resumes. All students in Year 10 are expected to complete this program, including attending an interview with an employer at the Darebin Arts Centre next term.

Year 9 Morrisby Program

On Wednesday 14 September, all Year 9 students will be expected to complete their Morrisby online assessment.  This takes about two hours, and the results of the assessment will be used in Term 4, when each student will meet individually with an external careers practitioner to discuss their results and how these might link to future career plans. Consent forms will be released via Compass this week – only students with consent will be able to participate in this important program.

Making career choices - lessons from Agriculture

Webinar for parents and carers, Tuesday 9 August 2022, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Career decision-making learning includes developing the ability to make career decisions in the context of life planning and relating self-awareness to the knowledge of different opportunities. In guiding this development, we have a responsibility to provide young people with learning opportunities that expand their understanding of themselves in relation to less visible careers, such as those in Agriculture.

Join Dr Nicole McDonald, Senior Research Officer, Central Queensland University as she discusses:

  • How to best support young people to develop self-awareness and self-efficacy to support their career goals
  • The purpose, meaning and values that are associated with career choice for young people aspiring to a fulfilling career and life
  • The unseen job market in the agriculture industry.
