College Cricket Club Season 2022/23

It is nearly time for the 2022/23 cricket season. The College Cricket Club has booked pre-season training sessions at the Monivae Cricket Centre from 6.00pm to 7.30pm on the following dates:

Wednesday 17 August

Wednesday 24 August

Thursday 1 September

Thursday 8 September

These sessions are open to all College Cricket Club players for the upcoming season.

At this stage, the season is due to start in Term Four, with no fixed date just yet. We are hoping to get pre-season training underway in the last weeks of Term Three.

The senior section will enter sides across all grades this season and there will be opportunities for juniors to play across the different grades as well. The club is looking to enter a side for the women’s competition and is keen to hear from any females that are interested in joining. As always, we actively encourage junior students who are wishing to play in higher grades to make themselves available. On the form attached, please indicate if your child(ren) wishes to play in a higher grade than their age group.

For the junior boys, we expect that the teams will have the following match times for this season:

  • The U12s have training on Tuesday nights, with matches on Wednesday nights from 4:00 pm.
  • The U14s have training on Thursday nights, with matches on Saturday mornings from 08:45 am.
  • The U16s have training on Thursday nights, with matches Tuesday nights from 4:00 pm.

Age groups for the upcoming season are the same as last year.

  • If you/your child’s birthday is after September 1st, you are eligible to play in the age group of the year you’re turning. E.g.  I am going to be 14 in October so I qualify to play in the U14 competition.
  • If you/your child reaches the age of their competition before September 1st, they will be too old and will need to play in the higher age group. Eg. I turned 14 in August so I will need to play in the U16 competition.

We are hoping to enter two teams for each of the junior age groups into the HDCA’s junior competition this year.

For the junior girls, dependent on how much interest we receive, we expect to have lunchtime training sessions at College, with matches played on Tuesday nights.

Attached to this email is a series of documents. Please complete the forms and email your responses to lwilliams@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au if you wish to play on the junior girl's side and to hburmeister@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au if you wish to play on a junior boy’s side.  Alternatively, if you would like to print them, please return them to either the Senior or Junior School.

Should you require any additional information, please contact either Lou Williams (girls) or Heinrich Burmeister (boys) at the email addresses provided above.

Girls Hockey

With the home and away rounds now complete, the B grade and Division One women have hit top form! Both teams will play in elimination finals in the first week but should be full of confidence heading into the finals.

The B Grade women played their best game of the season last Sunday defeating Demons 9-0. The forward line was unstoppable and worked beautifully together to create numerous opportunities. Millie and Anna Davidson, Bel Wallis, Mrs Churchill, Sophie Spence and Olivia Porter all combined to create numerous scoring opportunities. Fin Cameron, Macey Hermon, Mrs Spence and Mrs Cameron combined very well across the backline to limit the Demons scoring opportunities. Emily McNaughton has been simply brilliant as the goalie for both the A and B Grade sides and has kept College in many games this season. Mrs Nicholas would have been very proud of their performance!

The A Grade women have also found form at the right end of the season and their teamwork and passing game in the last two matches has been the stand out. Captain Lucy Robert has led from the front in every match and her skill and leadership has been instrumental in guiding this young side. The backline of Emily and Ashleigh McNaughton, Olivia Read and Sarah Andersen is one of the strongest combinations in the league. Daisy Henry, Lily Cush, Hayley Spence and Jemima Bishop-Mowatt form a formidable half back line and all have shown considerable versatility this season.

A fit and fast forward combination of Ava Mould, Sophie Merrin, Millie Davidson, Millie Howells and Jorja Hermon have really started to gel, and it has been so rewarding to witness their development.

Best wishes to all our players and coaches for a successful final series.
