P to the E with Leigh

Foundation students have really come along way this term! They have better balance and confidence and they are starting to challenge themselves and their skills.

This term I have had preservice teacher - Ben Mathews - and an old student from the school, Isaac helping me with lessons and instruction. We have been working a lot with tennis balls - bouncing and catching skills and we are now working on striking skills with small bats.

The 1/2s have moved quickly through basic ball skills and are now doing striking and hitting with a tennis racket. The emphasis has been on building skills around watching and striking the ball and using footwork. P.M.P (perceptual motor program) is now in its 5th week for the 1/2 grades with an emphasis and focus on balance and gym skills. This will continue to the end of this term.  Thank-you to the parents who had time to help, there is nothing better than being a witness to our child’s development and welfare.

The 3/4s and 5/6s have been preparing for Athletics and trying out for all the teams. This year we have done a lot of running to make up for last year. The relays have been popular and the progression and improved fitness has been really noticeable from the beginning of the year. We have been playing Lacrosse, an old Native American game and the instruction has been facilitated by Merric from Brunswick Lacrosse team.

The club is on a drive to build the junior teams and is offering good fees and instruction across all age groups. (see me if your interested)

The instruction and language around sport this term has been a challenge for myself and the P.E. teachers across the district, this term as we all work on making our lessons gender inclusive with a real focus on making all the children feel safe and included when playing sport. For example, as well as some sports being gendered we include non-binary and open sports with the teams. This has meant across the whole district a change in how we present the sports and the language we use to make everyone feel included. This will be an ongoing discussion as we continue to develop policy and change how we present lessons and language instruction.

Lastly a thank you to all the parents/carers who have helped out through the year with sporting events I appreciate the help and effort.

Thanks Everyone
