Victorian High-Ability Program
Year 7 & 8 Students participating in a specialised curriculum in English and Maths
The VHAP program is a well designed program made for students in years 7 and 8 to better extend their knowledge and curiosities outside of their classroom. This program is held at the end of every week through WebEx and involves students solving problems and learning new ideas outside of the normal Maths and English curriculum. With this program, students like us, get the opportunity to socialise with other students that may share the same interests and abilities.
VHAP’s program is run and supported by their own website through Virtual Schools Victoria, which you can get into with login details you are given. We can access the links for our meetings, the daily lesson, and assigned homework when logged in. We can also access the class forum, where we turn in our assignments and post questions. There are videos and references that are noted as you are in the lesson that can help us understand the topic in different ways. During the program, we have got both our regular classroom teachers' help, along with tutors, and are also free to ask questions on the class forum for our VHAP teacher to answer. Most lessons also involve homework that is not compulsory but really encouraged to help better understand the lesson that has been taught.
As of now, we have been attending the VHAP program for 7 weeks, and it has been very fun and helpful. We think that this programme can be beneficial for students who are unable to receive any additional work in the classroom. During every lesson, it is able to teach us new ideas and strategies that really exercise our minds to solve problems in numerous ways. Every Friday at the library, we are able to meet students that share the same interests. Many of the exercises done during class involve a team effort, which helps everyone be able to contribute and show their own perspective in the matter. The Victorian High Ability program is something that we are very appreciative of to be included in and thought of for.

I like how most of this is what I don’t know about math and it help me expand my knowledge more.
Vivan, 7I
One thing I liked about the program is how the subjects are a bit challenging and stretching with the teacher wanting to challenge ourselves further and question, investigate.
Kevin, 7J
Something I like about VHAP is that you get to learn advanced stuff, not just the stuff we already know. Also, it challenges our thinking which makes our brain work faster. I've never learned traversable graphs before, so I'm very interested in what we are learning.
We've been learning about traversable graphs and how they work. We also get work sheets about them which we have to answer.
Kesar, 7A
I enjoyed coming together as a group with my peers and learning about new things like the Fibonacci sequence and traversable graph. I think my teacher is a wonderful teacher and explains the work very well and I am able to understand the way she teaches very easily.
Prabhleen, 7A
In VHAP we are learning about problem solving and recently about traversable graphs, I like that they are not only doing common topics like algebra but instead teaching us mathematical problems that challenge our brain to help us become smarter

Students are chosen to participate in The Victorian High-Ability Program by the Department of Education based on their achievement in English or Maths.
Congratulations to all students involved in the program for demonstrating the college value 'Embrace Learning'.
