Senior School Report

Senior School Assemblies & Achievements

Earlier this term, the Senior School celebrated students who have demonstrated Academic Excellence, and those students who Embrace Learning during our Year 10 and Year 11 assemblies. We also acknowledged and congratulated those students who have attendance rates above 95%.

Teachers used CAT and SAC scores to identify those students who have excelled, as well as those students who are taking on feedback, improving their results and always try to do their best to embrace Learning. Congratulations to our award recipients.

Pump Up The Fun!

During the assemblies, students also found out about the lunchtime activities that are running exclusively for Year 10 and Year 11 students. After collecting many suggestions from our students during Home Group sessions, the Senior School are running a Lightning Futsal Competition in the Gym, learn how to draw classes and cooking classes. The first of our cooking classes happened in Week 7. Led by Lina, Sara and Rachael, 17 Year 11 students made their own pizzas from scratch.

We have a variety of activities planned for Term 4 as well. Information about these activities including what is happening and when, is provided to students during Home Group sessions. Students will also find out how to sign up to these activities during Home Group sessions.

Centre for Multicultural Youth Leadership Workshops

The Centre for Multicultural Youth is running a series of leadership workshops with our senior students over the coming weeks. The aim of the workshops is to develop the leadership skills of our senior students through a shared understanding of values and the importance of action, rather than positions in leadership. The skills that they learn through this experience will be of great benefit as they prepare to enter their final year of studies and look forward to their future learning and careers.

The first group to experience this was one of our VCAL classes. The students were highly engaged in the session as they explored their personal values and fight and flight responses and how these influence their leadership. More groups of our year 11 students will participate in the workshops next week.

Year 10 Formal

The Year 10 Formal will be held on Friday the 21st of October. The venue is The Grand Reception in Epping. Further details including cost, payment details and times can be found on Compass. We will also require parental/guardian consent, agreement to our Code of Conduct and travel details. Our Year 10 students are very excited about the Formal and are working with the Senior School Team to plan a memorable evening.

Year 11 Formal

The Year 11 Formal is happening on Friday the 26th of August. In our next newsletter we will be able to share with you some photos of our wonderful Year 11 students and their teachers enjoying the night.

Our Formal Planning Committee included Seadet, Chloe, Hala, Ozlem, Navdeep, Petrezcia, Sarah, Jorgia, Naia, Mikhayla, Arshia, Hayden, Rukaya and Shreya. Guided by Nancy, these students have worked together to run meetings, plan the menu, prepare and collate forms, creating and handing out tickets, organising seating plans and many other tasks that helped to develop their organisational and leadership skills. Nancy and the Formal Planning Committee have done an amazing job and we thank them for their hard work.

Redemption, Course Counselling and Subject Selections

Many students have found the adjustment to entering VCE and VCAL a challenge, particularly after two years of remote learning.

Some students were not able to successfully complete all of their units in semester one. To support students making the adjustment and achieving success, the College has provided an opportunity for students to adjust their program by changing subjects or programs, but also for students to catch up and redeem the units that were not Satisfactory in semester one. Subject selections for 2023 have now closed.

Students are encouraged to continue working with their teachers to catch up and complete all outcomes and units from semester one before the end of term.

Coming up in Senior School

In term 4 students in year 10 and year 11 will again sit exams for each of their subjects. Year 11 exams will take place in week 8 and year 10 exams will take place in week 9.

There will also a be a step up program after the exam period where year 10 students will experience their 2023 year 11 classes and year 11 students will experience their year 12 classes.
