PRAYER FOR THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR

At the end of this school year we give thanks to God:

For all the teaching and learning that has taken place in our school,

both in and out of the classroom,

For the talents and gifts that have been shared

and the challenges that have been faced;

For the burdens that have been lifted and the hurts that have been healed;

For the respect and care that has been given.

We give thanks for the friendships that have just begun

and for those that have grown.

For the faith that has been lived in our daily struggles,

For the hope that has lifted our hearts on the dark days

And for the love that has kept us going.

We give thanks for the community that we are, and we ask you Lord –

Bless our students and families as we take our holidays,

may our time together leave us with memories to cherish.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.

Blessed Edmund Rice.

Live Jesus in our hearts

PRAYERS PLEASE

At present Mr Iwatani is still fighting the cancer.  It has been a long battle for the whole family.  Please remember them in your prayers.

REPORTS

The Junior School Reports will be issued today.  I have read all the comments.  There shouldn’t be any surprises in them.  If you have any questions then please contact your son’s teacher.  If you have a son in the Senior School, their reports will be issued next Monday.

THANK YOU AND FAREWELL

As this is the last Woodchatta I will write so please excuse this indulgence. I would like to thank the wonderful staff of the Junior School for their dedication.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents throughout the years for their support and all the amazing students that provide inspiration and motivation to us as teachers.   The students make it fun! This is a great college and I have seen many changes and enjoyed my time as Head of the Junior School.  2021 was an interesting year, where we lived through history.  All the best for the future. Take care and, as I say to the boys every week, so they are safe on the way home, ‘Don’t bruise any bumper bars!’

You should have received the following email.

The Junior School will be having their Sports and Academic awards presentations at Oxford Falls on the last day of the term, Friday 3rd December.  The boys will come to school in their full school uniform and we will bus them down to Oxford Falls.  The day will start with an end of Year Paraliturgy led by our senior leaders.  This is generous of our leaders as they will be on holidays by then.  The day will be live streamed but parents will be allowed to attend.

  • Anybody 16 years or older will need to QR code in, show proof of being fully vaccinated on arrival and wear a mask indoors.  The per square metre rule will be observed by sitting on Court 2.  The chairs will be spread out.    We will have to follow the current per square metre rule so you will need to sit apart unless from the same household. Please don’t attend if you have any flu like symptoms.
  •  All the parents/carers of academic award recipients were emailed last Friday.
  • All the parents/carers of sports award recipients have been emailed last Monday.

ARRIVAL

  • For the 10.00 am Sports Assembly could you please stay in your cars in the car park.  When the liturgy concludes we will come out and call you in.  We want to avoid a crowd at the door.
  • For the 12.00 noon Academic Awards please begin to enter from 11.45 am onwards as we will have our COVID Marshalls (teachers) at the door by then.

At the conclusion of the Academic Awards at approximately 2.00 pm, any parents who are at Oxford Falls are welcome to take their son home to begin the summer holidays.  The remainder of the boys will be bussed back to school for a dismissal time similar to Thursdays (Approx 2.50 pm). Congratulations to James Borg

James was awarded 2nd Place in the Sydney Eisteddfod's Classical Guitar 12 & Under section.  Due to lockdown restrictions, the event had to be submitted via video recording, and his submission can be found here: https://youtu.be/zW-MgFNZdP8.  This follows his achievement of being awarded First Place in his age category for Classical Guitar in both the Ryde and Wollongong Eisteddfods earlier this year.

This week's highlights:

Sizzling Summer Reads.

Are you ready for Summer? We have lots of great, sizzling summer reads to keep you going over the holidays. Pop into the Junior Resource Centre and borrow your list for the summer.

Sizzling Summer Hints for reading at home

Reading to and with your child can be a very special time spent together.

Set a regular time to read each day. You might even set a timer.

Talk about the book as you read – think of this as a discussion not a set of formal questions.

Match books with family activities.

 Always carry a book

 Have a family reading time

Consider reading the library book yourself so you can connect with your child and the books they enjoy.

From the JRC Library Monitors.

A Very Merry Christmas and safe holiday reading. We look forward to seeing you all in the JRC in 2022. Absent from the photo was Robert Ponniah.

Year 6 Senior Library visit.

A big thank you to Mrs Keighery our Senior Librarian who welcomed all our Year 6 classes into the Senior Library this week. The boys were able to familiarise themselves with the Senior Resource Centre and the collection of fiction and nonfiction books and resources ready for 2022.

PRC Certificate Update

2021 PRC challenge certificates have now been distributed to all students who have completed the challenge, and who are NOT eligible for a gold or platinum certificate. Gold and platinum certificates and medals are currently being printed and collated for shipping by the PRC office. Hopefully they will arrive before the end of Term 4.

As the year closes, I would like to acknowledge our wonderful Library Monitors they were a huge help ensuring all aspects of the library ran well. Looking forward to 2022, with lots of reading, author and illustrator visits and of course Book Week!!

Finally, to all the students who borrow and return their books each week – THANK YOU. Thou shalt read books!
