St Pius X College and Willoughby Community Men's Shed

On Monday 29 November, Oliver Aylmer and Logan Nicey of the current Year 12 Industrial Technology Class along with Mr Mendez visited the Willoughby Community Men’s Shed where we were greeted by manager Mr David Bornstein.

The purpose of the visit was to present The Men’s Shed with a plaque of appreciation which was constructed by the HSC Class of 2021. Over the past few years The Willoughby Community Men’s Shed has provided guidance, assistance, and support to our students in the form of sharing resources, time, and making specialised equipment available to help give our students' Major Projects that touch of professionalism in their final presentation. The gentleman there are always willing to impart of their knowledge and skills to our boys.

We look forward to strengthening this bond within our community over the coming year and future by continuing to work together so our students' Major Projects may be taken to the next level.

A big thank you to all involved with this important community resource, especially Mr Neville Warner, who helped organise our visit, and Mr David Bornstein who welcomed us and gave us a tour on the day.

The Men's Shed is truly a special place that helps men of all ages tackle the issue of mental health by using craftsmanship and a workshop environment to bring men together to share their stories and create great interest projects at the same time.

Lights, Camera, Pius! Film Festival

We have had another great year of films made by students in the College, many of them during lockdown. The boys are to be commended for overcoming difficult obstacles. Some of the films featured family members this year and well done to the sisters and mothers who gave their time to be in films. Judging was tough and there was quite some deliberation but the winners were decided.

The winners were announced at Assembly on Monday morning.  Please use the link below to watch the announcement, including some bloopers at the end!

Year 9 Man and Technology Paintings

This term Year 9 artists have been researching the art of the ‘Futurists’ and their celebration of the machine, speed and technology.

The students have tried to capture some of these themes in their paintings. They have done an excellent job with their compositions, ideas and colour schemes.

Well done to all students for such enthusiastic work this term.

There are no limits on how many books students can borrow these holidays and students are borrowing-up big in library lessons. There has been a rush on the Sci-Fi classic Dune by Frank Herbert with the movie opening in cinema’s tomorrow.

If students are caught short these holidays, fear not, there’s the College’s ebook and audiobook collection at the ready. And with over 3000 ebooks and 900 audiobooks; there is plenty of choice. Audiobooks are perfect for a holiday car trip as the whole family can share the enjoyment of listening to a great book.
