Deputy Principals' Reports

Mrs Kerry Doyle

Deputy Principal

It is another year in which I have had the honour of being a Deputy at Evans High School, the students who were my first-year group are moving into becoming Seniors and over the past few weeks, it has been lovely to reflect on their journey throughout high school. This year I was completing another role within the school in what was known as in Instructional Leader. I have also taken on the alternate year groups and felt so privileged to be able to meet with students from these year groups.

I would like to remind everyone about the expectations of school around a few things.

  1. Uniform- we are a uniform school, please ensure that you have a full school uniform on including your shoes. As a former TAS teacher I know the stress it causes to not allow practical lessons for students as they did not have leather shoes, please when making the purchase of shoes ensure that you have plain black leather shoes. These may be a sneaker variant, but leather shoes are a must in TAS and Science. Correct jumpers are vital, many students are wearing hoodies in a variety of colours. If you are found to be wearing a jumper that is incorrect please be advised you will be offered a correct one if you do not have a note from your parent.
  2. School Equipment- It is an expectation that you will start day 1 with correct equipment. Your school report will have a letter outlining equipment required for the following year. Please ensure that your equipment includes a scientific calculator as well as specialist course materials for elective subjects.
  3. School start times- It is expected that students are at school on time. This means prior to the 8:35 am bell for roll call. Whilst we understand that occasionally things go wrong in the morning and occasionally buses are late. If you are dropping your child late to school, please provide a note or make a call to the school if there is a reason for this lateness.

2022 will see a raft of changes for students in terms of accessing their mobile phones. The introduction of Yondr, will allow for students to be able to focus on learning. There has been a parent forum on this topic, as well as student information sessions and a FAQ’s sheet will be released based of questions that students and their families have asked. This will be a big change in our learning as all day I manage several issues stemming to mobile phones. There will be a very clear set of guidelines around mobile phone compliance at Evans High School in 2022, we ask for your support in the effective implementation of this program, we also ask if you have a specific reason why this is not suitable for your child, you can speak with the school. We are aware that some of our students use their phones for medical things such as checking blood sugar levels and we can support this is a discreet manner.

Finally, enjoy the break! This has been a very long year, it has been exhausting for so many families and hopefully the summer break will be a nice opportunity to spend time with family and friends in a Covid safe manner. I would like to say farewell to some of our families moving out of the area. It will also be lovely to see new students and families next year.

Merry Christmas

Ms Doyle
