Principal’s Message

Mr Nick Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have a busy two weeks coming up as we head towards the end of the school year! Today, our students voted for our 2022 school leaders after listening to the nominee speeches. Well done to Hunter, Felicity and Georgia for nominating for these important leadership roles. The announcement of the 2022 school leaders will be made at tomorrow’s Presentation Assembly.

The Semester Two student reports will be made available to parents via Compass this afternoon. As always, these reports are designed to be a celebration of student achievement whilst providing areas of improvement for next year. Over the past two weeks, our school Core Values have reflected the importance of looking at our work and setting goals to improve our learning. Over the next two weeks, our Core Values focus on celebrating what we have achieved this year. Every gain is a success, and the students at Sacred Heart have demonstrated excellent growth over the course of this year, despite the interruption once again caused by COVID in Term 3. If you have any questions about your child’s class report, I encourage you to arrange to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss future goals for your child’s learning.

Our Presentation Assembly is being held tomorrow at 9.30am under the COLA area at school. Due to the current restrictions, we cannot allow parents to enter the school grounds for the assembly unless they have been invited for a specific job such as giving a speech or presenting an award. However, we will place seats outside the inner gates under the shade for parents to view the assembly should you wish to watch the assembly live. All parents must be wearing a mask, check in via the QR code and be fully vaccinated to attend. We will also live stream the event via Zoom. A zoom link will be forwarded to parents via Compass tonight should you wish to watch.

This Saturday night, our school has been invited to sing at the Boggabri Carols in the Park concert. All parents were sent a permission note via Compass last week. All students have been invited to be a part of our choir, however it is not compulsory to attend. Students attending are asked to wear neat and tidy Christmas clothes and meet Mr Baird at Vickery Park by 7.15pm.

I am pleased to announce that Miss Tahlia Morrissey will be joining the Sacred Heart staff in 2022 as an Educational Aide. Miss Morrissey has recently moved to the region from Sydney, and brings with her a vast range of experience working at schools such as Ravenswood, Brigidine College and Hornsby South Public School. Miss Morrissey is also currently training to be a teacher and will complete her Masters of Teaching in 2022 whilst working at our school. We will have the chance to welcome Miss Morrissey to Sacred Heart before the end of the school year.

With our staffing finalised, we can announce the 2022 class structures and teaching staff. Miss Mooney will continue to take Maternity Leave for the first six months of 2022. In Semester One, we will have two classes at Sacred Heart - K/1/2 and 3/4/5/6. Once again, we have structured our staffing to ensure that the crucial literacy and numeracy blocks have been highly saturated with adults. This structure allows us to have a high ratio of adults to students during this learning time which has resulted in amazing improvement in 2021. I am very confident that this structure will ensure more continued growth for all our students, providing a personalised approach that caters for the needs of every learner, at their point of need.

In 2022, the class teachers are;

K/1/2 - Mrs Kath Baird (literacy and numeracy teacher), Mrs Kath Fenton (Monday and Tuesday), Mrs Shelley Roseby (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and Miss Tahlia Morrissey (Teacher’s Aide)

3/4/5/6 - Mrs Katie Goddard (Monday to Thursday), Mrs Jenny Darley (Friday), Mrs Colleen Howarth (numeracy) and Mrs Leah Rees (Teacher’s Aide).

This structure allows us to have three adults in both classrooms during literacy and numeracy activities Monday to Thursday, ensuring we have a ratio of 1 adult to every five children in K/1/2 and one adult to every 6 children in 3/4/5/6. Once again, this allows us to provide a personalised learning approach for your child in the vital areas of literacy and numeracy development. For the purposes of notes sent to class teachers, Mrs Baird will be the lead teacher in K/1/2 and Mrs Goddard the lead teacher for 3/4/5/6.

Have a great week!

Nick
