Grades 3-6

Welcome back to school! We did it!

Firstly, on behalf of the entire 3—6 senior school team we would like to thank all our students, parents and extended family members for all their support and flexibility during remote learning! We greatly appreciate all the effort and support you have provided our team over the course of the semester.

Public Speaking Competition

This week officially began the Weeden Heights Public Speaking Competition. Students have been provided with a number of different prompts based upon their year level. They are as follows:

Grades 3 and 4 Topics [Speech: 1 minute and 30 second]

  1.  ‘If I was invisible for a day I would’
  2. ‘If I was Principal for the day…’
  3. ‘The most magnificent thing is…’
  4. ‘My dream transport’

Grades 5 & 6 Topics - [Speech: 2 minutes]

  1.  ‘If I could make a change to social media, I would…’
  2.  ‘If I could meet anyone I would like to meet...’
  3. ‘If I were a character in a book, I would be…’
  4. ‘If I had the power to make one big change in the world…’

Students started planning and drafting their speeches in lessons, and their excitement builds with each passing day. The ideas and arguments students are presenting within each topic range from the fantastical to the grounded, from the magical to the logical. No two speeches will be the same, even with the same topic, and we look forward to hearing the finalised speeches during presentations next week!

Return to the Kitchen and Garden Program

After a single session at the beginning of Term 3, the Grade 3 and Grade 3/4 have finally returned to the garden and kitchen. Students made beetroot hummus, crackers, and rhubarb crumble to great success. The recipes have been emailed out to families already.

Anticipation is high for what awaits them in the kitchen next week!
