Banksia Senior School Report

The end of the year is a transition point for so many students in the Senior School.  As we say goodbye to the Year 12’s we welcome the next group of Year 11 and 12’s along with those students moving up from Year 9 into 10 to be part of the Senior School for 2022.

We thank our outgoing student leaders and welcome a new group of outstanding young people to lead the college next year.  Congratulations and thank you to Pyrien Chantagit and Raghav Anand who lead the school through such a difficult time in 2021.  Your capacity to engage and support your fellow students is a credit to you both.  To Michelle Seng and Sithisak Sereibott, the 2022 Banksia Campus Captains, we wish you and your leadership team the very best.

The Graduation Ceremony, held on 25th November was a wonderful way to farewell the Year 12’s.  With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, it was fantastic to celebrate their achievements with friends and family.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  We hope you enjoyed the evening.

As we wind down for the year and as we think about what 2022 will bring, I believe it is important we acknowledge what we all achieved together as a school throughout 2021.  While this year may not have been what we all expected it to be and with more lockdowns and disruptions to our learning, our entire school community has demonstrated amazing persistence and resilience.  We learned agility and flexibility, and how to react and respond to challenge and change.  While this was very hard it will benefit us in the long run.

Good luck to the Year 12’s students waiting for their VCE results on the 16th December and I wish all members of our school community a very safe and happy holiday.

The final term of school was a very busy one for our Year 12’s. They returned to onsite learning for a brief couple of weeks before the final VCAA exams began with English and EAL on October 27th. Despite the difficult circumstance, the exams went ahead with no major disruptions. The Year 12’s conducted themselves in an outstanding manner.

Exams concluded on Wednesday the 17th of November and Acacia Campus held their graduation ceremony on Thursday the 18th. As restrictions allowed all graduands were able to invite one guest to attend the formal ceremony and all Year 12’s were presented with their graduation certificate by the College Principal John Baston. To meet density requirements we hired a large marque to accommodate all students and guests.

After the formal ceremony, the graduating class were invited to attend a post event celebration with their teachers and fellow peers to celebrate the end of their formal schooling. Students enjoyed some food and music and even presented some formal speeches to their fellow peers. It was a lovely afternoon enjoyed by all who attended.

Final exam results are due to be released to students this week and from the Senior School Management Team at Acacia we wish the Year 12’s of the graduating class of 2021 all the best with this and in the future.

The Year 11 VCAL students ran an ‘Environmental Sustainability and Social Issues’ expo aimed at addressing issues encompassed by these topics. Throughout the semester, they researched an issue and took the opportunity at the expo to convey what they had learnt to students in years 7-11, providing examples of how individuals could make simple changes to their lives to improve their school and wider community environments.

The VCAL students were very proud to present their outstanding work to the members of the school and hope to make a profound difference in the world.

The Year 11’s of 2021 have finished their 2021 classes with the end of year exams. The next time they sit an exam it will be the all-important, final exams.

Brendan Hong said, “I’m proud of the year level for getting through a tough year.” Jimmy Webster said “thanks to the lovely teachers of Acacia who have prepared me for next year’s exams.”
