Prep

This term we have been participating in a range of craft activities. We have been using paint and a range of craft materials to create some beautiful art pieces to decorate our classrooms.  Each class created a different craft including, teddy bears, balloon flying, monsters and making an octopus. We have had so much fun being creative with our friends and re-building our classroom relationships.

In writing we have been looking at procedural writing. We were lucky enough to make Fairy bread during our remote learning time. Now that we are back at school, we have revisited all the steps it took for us to make Fairy bread. We have then cut out all the steps we need to take and have been putting the pictures and written steps back in the correct order.

In maths, we have been learning about capacity. We have been using rice and water to fill a variety of containers in various ways. We have been practicing words like, Full, Empty, Half Full, Almost empty, etc. It has been lots of fun filling up the containers to match the words.

Year 2

In Literacy we have been continuing with our Reading comprehension tasks around both fiction and nonfiction texts. The students were introduced to the text by their teacher and then had to answer questions independently. These are the texts we used.

For writing the students have been exposed to lots of opportunities to write narratives with the focus on including who, when and what in their stories, making sure they have a beginning middle and end  and that correct punctuation is used. Students have also been encouraged to edit their work.

The Year 2 Play Based Focus at the moment is on ‘Our Australian Neighbours. Our first neighbouring country is New Zealand. We will be looking at a map of New Zealand and looking at the two islands that make up New Zealand. As part of our cultural experience, we will be learning the Haka and watching a video about sheep shearing. We will be painting significant New Zealand landmarks and mountains.

This term in Maths the year 2’s have been looking at Australian Currency. They have been busy sorting play notes and coins into value order and using this to work out change and problem-solving.

Last week we completed our work on Mass and Capacity. The students had a lot of fun measuring different containers and estimating and comparing how much each container holds. They also learnt about hefting by holding 2 different items in separate hands to feel which item was heavier.

In Prep to Year 2 French we are continuing to learn about Les Couleurs (The colours) in French.

Students are learning to sing “I can sing a rainbow” in French. We are playing games like Fruit Salad with coloured scarves, doing colour matching jigsaws, French colour flash cards and French colour bingo. We are trying our best to try and recognise the names of the colours in French. Here is a picture of Prep B enjoying a game of colour Bingo.

Students have had a long wait until restrictions eased for us to return to school and receive the applause and recognition they deserve from their peers. However, judging from the large smiles on their faces of the students who have received their awards, the long wait has been worth it.
