Connecting to Learning in the DP: French

On Mondays and Fridays this year we have welcomed Elisabeth Arnaldi, a French language assistant to Preshil. Elisabeth joins us with nearly a decade of experience supporting IB students through the French B program, and a Master of Teaching French as a Second Language from the Sorbonne. She also brings with her immense warmth and passion for exploring French language and culture with young people.

We recently took some time to ask Elisabeth some questions so that you can get to know her a little better.

How can you support me learning French?

If you are in Years 11 and 12, you can book in for a private tutoring session in your 'free'. Your teacher will help you find a time that works. During these sessions I can help you with your conversational fluency, grammar or even your homework.

(For those students in Years 7-10, your teacher might arrange for you a time with me if you need extension or extra support. I also love visiting your classes and sharing my culture with you.)

What advice do you have for people who are nervous to speak in French?

I always say to my students, I am not your teacher! I’m not here to evaluate or judge you. I’m just here to share my passion with you.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Being Parisienne, I try to return home every year. I love restoring my ancestral family home which was built in 1854. It is situated near a beautiful city just outside of Paris called Compiègne. This city is known as ‘The Imperial City’ as Napoleon III would visit each weekend to host parties.

One day I hope to run French immersion courses for students from my home there.
