Everything is not Cancelled

As we have said many times before we think we have the best class in the school. We have been so impressed with the resilience the students have demonstrated this week as they began another round of remote learning. They have been present in meetings with smiles and announcements to share. Their positive attitude is infectious and has brought a smile to our faces each morning.

Inquiry

Our current inquiry unit is on change and we have been learning about the way materials and objects can change state and comparing the density of different objects.

Last week we held a mini Science Fair. The task was to work in pairs to prepare a science demonstration for other students. Students had to explain the science behind their chosen experiment.

Maths

We continue our Geometry unit moving from 2D shape into angles and 3D shape. Students were asked to describe and compare the properties of 2D shapes including the different lines and angles within each shape.

Literacy

Reading Groups are back!  It was so wonderful to work with my Reading Group last week. The students are working on the Comprehension Strategy of Monitoring and Clarifying.   Monitoring what they read to ensure it makes sense, and if they come across a word that doesn't make sense, they make note of it and look it up in the dictionary.  So lots of new vocabulary and discussion happening with new learning.

The Learning Pit

The Learning Pit is a place where deep learning happens.  It can feel uncomfortable, but we are learning to get used to that feeling and climb out of the pit and feel successful. The students had the opportunity to design their own Learning Pit and use words and pictures to describe how the Learning Pit feels.

Education in Faith

This term in Education in Faith we are learning about different forms of prayer.  For this activity the students researched different religions and compared their traditions and symbols to our Catholic ways of praying.
