Faith Matters
At St Francis Xavier School
Dear St Francis Xavier Families,
There has been so much going on at our school, in relation to faith, since we returned to on-site learning.
Firstly, our Year 4 and 5 students finally received the Sacrament of First Communion on the 6th and 7th of November. Congratulations to:
Sophie, Molly, Caleb, Austin, Grace, Micah, Tomo, Cassandra, Ruby, Siyana, Lucy, Jo Anne, Aliyah, Rozi, Liam, Sebastian, Sage, Savior, Luciana, Joshua, Christo, Jacob, Alana, Millie, Stephna and Emily.
We now have four of our Year 6s, Lennox, Gabriella, Jacob and Sophie preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation within the next week.
This term, several of our classes are focusing on the Catholic call to be 'Stewards of Creation' and care for our world. They have been exploring the connection between the symbolism of the Creation Story and Pope Francis' letter (Laudato Si) asking us to care for our common home, the planet earth. In some instances the Caring for Country land management practices and initiatives, undertaken by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, have also been touched upon. The children have been sharing their ideas and opinions, creating prayers and participating in wonderful activities such as guided meditations, going on prayer walks, and singing songs.
Here are some of their offerings.
Comments from our Year 1/2s.
"God made land for us. We need to take care of Mother Earth." Spencer
"We need to look after the earth because God created it for a long time." Lana
“To be a Steward is to look after animals and the sea creatures and to keep God’s spirit alive.” Jagger
“We were made to look after the world. If all the living things died, the spirit of God would be gone.” Valentina
Seha's Prayer
Dear God,
In a rainbow there are seven colours. A rainbow is a family, just like God's Family.
Trees represent growing. God gave us the gift of life, He gave us the gift of a heart too.
Thank you
Amen
Amelie's Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for our family and friends. We are sorry for the trespasses.
We will take care of mother earth. We will pick up all the rubbish.
In Year 3/4 the students have been exploring various ways to worship and how we can associate more creatively and spiritually through prayer within a 21st century context. They are currently developing prayer experiences using technology and will be sharing them with the rest of the school throughout the coming weeks. Something we are all really looking forward to.
Blessings to you all
