YEAR 10 DESIGN TECH - VISUAL DIARY WORK

In Design Tech, we were provided an amazing opportunity to learn about how to design and create our own textile design and the significance of the fashion industry on our planet.

Currently, we are creating our own t-shirt design (or other garments) inspired by the rich cultures of countries around the globe. We dived into finding and annotating images from our country and drawing sketches of these images. After this, we learnt how to use Vliesofix and fabrics to replicate our design ideas and some even learnt how to embroider details into their designs.

We are very happy with our textile designs so far and can't wait to start brainstorming and creating our final designs! Additionally, we learnt about the impacts of the fashion industry, and how fast fashion, in particular, is hurting our people and our planet.

A documentary we watched, The True Cost, gave us an insight on who and what pays the price for our clothes, and gave us a foundation from which to conduct our theory task on. The theory task aimed to research the sustainability and impacts of fast fashion and made us think twice about buying clothes often. Overall, I can't wait to see what the future of this elective holds and would highly recommend it to other students.
