CAPTAIN'S CORNER

YEAR 12 FORMAL

Despite murmurs going around about the Year 12 Formal not going ahead due to COVID restrictions, Mrs Binnion’s powers of persuasion managed to convince the Premier to provide us with a venue - one with a dance floor, that was so highly requested, at that.

The Year 12s gathered in the Merrimu courtyard on March 10 and took hundreds of photos, with our one and only Krausey doing his best work and making us all look wonderful! Everyone was dressed to impress, especially Ms James, whose efforts were acknowledged later on in the evening, winning the ‘Best Dressed Teacher’ award.

Everyone’s dance moves also didn’t go unnoticed, showing record numbers of students on the dance floor at the same time, however, it was Sid who showed everyone how it’s done and won the ‘Best Dancer’ award.

We realise that this occasion was nothing but a confluence of luck and opportunity, so we wanted to thank all the staff that were involved in the organisational process.

Thank you to the Year 12 Student Managers and Ms Felmingham for dealing with every possible formal related problem under the sun, and of course to our esteemed principal, Mrs Binnion for allowing us to be a part of an occasion as special as this one.

EAST CAMPUS

The East Campus can be described in one word: breathtaking. Not only is the structure elegant, the classrooms are modern and spacious.

The whole campus is being enjoyed tremendously. You can see the enjoyment of the wide range of facilities; from quiet study corners to games of basketball on the courts, with many students choosing to sit around the back of the campus and enjoy the cool shade. Not only this, but during classes the campus shines as well. Commodious classrooms show students hard at work, whether that be cooking up a storm in the food tech rooms or working in the science rooms, one of which has been nicknamed the “robot room” due to the robot-like appendages suspended from the ceiling.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the transition from the Main Campus to the East Campus was not the easiest thing ever accomplished. It was a shock to all of us just how different the campus was, with buses and crossing East Boundary Road throwing us more than a few curve balls.

However, as we began to settle in - and I quote Mr Kan here – “the campus has begun to hum”. It’s clear just how much the Principal Team has thought out the schooling here; lockers are spaced out and furniture has been placed to create study areas for students to complete homework, study quietly and even work one-on-one with their teachers.

The East Campus is an incredible learning environment that will be used for many years to come.
