2021 Cyber Safety @ St Kevin’s

Technology is a great learning tool, but we need to make sure we are using it safely and appropriately.  Below are some ways we can be Cyber Safe at St Kevin’s:

We use our common sense when going online.  If it feels right then it probably is, if it feels like it’s the wrong thing, then it probably is!

Students are required to sign the ‘Acceptable use of technology agreement’ (and should have read it thoroughly). “I didn’t know that was a school expectation” is not an excuse.

We view the use of electronic services as a privilege not a right.  We only use technology at school for learning and educational purposes.

We keep our username and password details to ourselves.

We treat others with respect when using technology (anything we write or do online should be something we’d write or do if Grandma was watching).

If we find anything rude or inappropriate - we tell a teacher or parent straight away.

Remember that the school monitors everything students do online at school.  Key words are scanned and teachers are alerted to this.  We have ZScaler which blocks most inappropriate content.

Anything we write or any photo we post online is public and permanent.

Just remember to be a good person when you are online … and when you are offline.

Remember you must be at least 13 years old to have a FaceBook, Instagram, Tik Tok or Youtube account.

If you have any concerns about online behaviour - come and see us here at St Kevin’s (that goes for parents and families too).

Kind regards,

Jarrod Mullavey

SWELL DAY!

On Monday 8th February we celebrated SWELL Day. SWELL Day stands for Student Wellbeing Day and is a day where we all work together in groups on activities that focus on our wellbeing and foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration.

As always on SWELL Day, we did some work on our school theme for the year:

 STEP UP!

BE MORE!

Throughout the day, students worked in mixed age groups and took part in various activities. They decorated their own brick for a display about our school theme which is displayed in the front office, they did some team building activities, meditation, mindfulness and yoga. Students also participated in a scavenger hunt around the school to raise awareness and learn about what it’s like to have Tourette’s Syndrome.

We then came together to have a shared lunch outside.

SWELL Day was a great day and it was fantastic to see the students engaging with people of all ages, working together and having fun! A great day was had by all!
