Introduction
This year has been a year of firsts (some of them challenging, and some rewarding), and this week has been a week of firsts. Of particular note are the premier of our first production movie, the first visit to BBPS by our 2021 preps, and the first time for students across the school to visit the year levels they will be going into next year. Well done everyone for showing that we can try new things and keep growing, even when things get difficult. We are so proud of what we have achieved!
Prep
Our Preps are nearly Grade Ones – Can you believe it? They’re still buzzing from last week’s trip to the zoo, and this week they loved their visit to the year 1 classroom to check out their version of Elf on the Shelf. They have been doing a study of Koalas too as a follow up from their zoo excursion. They have also been writing letters to their grade 5 buddies. “Wheel” featured as the word of the week. Learning about healthy fruit and vegetables has made them all hungry, and 'Race to 100' has been a favourite maths game - highlighting some extremely good counting and recognition of number patterns.
Frankie (Prep OP) We went to grade 1 and 2 to see what it was like in the next class up. We went to 1W and they had an elf on the shelf. The classroom was different because they had bags on the back of their chairs for their books.
Gus (Prep OP) I remember the elf on the shelf was stuck to the roof by sticky tape. Maybe we will have an elf when we are in grade 1. We had to draw a picture of him. The teacher was Mrs McGaw. I’ve enjoyed writing this week. I wrote a letter to my buddy in grade 5
Esme (Prep OP) The room in grade 1 was so different. It has lots of things we don’t have in our classroom. We listened to a story about elves, there were flaps to open up to see the elves. We played Race to 100 in our prep class. We took turns to roll the dice and made up tens using unifix blocks. The first person to get to 100 wins.
Grades 1 and 2
Grade 1 and two students have been working on their resilience journals and have been looking at things that they worry about. They have been talking about the things that they can control and the things they can’t control (such as the weather).
Grades 3 and 4
Our grade 3 and 4 students have shared what they have been doing this week below:
Miles (3R) We have been studying Chris Van Allsburg, who wrote Jumanji, The Polar Express and Two Bad Ants. We have been writing a story using the author’s style.
Thomas (3R) We went to Green Point. There was a sandcastle building competition.
Charlie (3R)We finished off multiplication and recently we have been looking at tessellation. We used a website on our ipads with shapes and we had to work out which shapes tessellate and which shapes don’t.
Lottie (3R) We did an amazing race challenge. We got into teams and there were QR codes we scanned. We then had to try to answer questions about famous places in Melbourne to move onto the next challenge.
Layla (4B) We have been able to write a story about anything we want. I have been writing a horror story about pillow cases.
Zoe (4B) we have been doing a lot of problem solving to help us practise math's worded questions.
Grades 5 and 6
Grade 5 students have been preparing for grade 6, and grade 6 students have been preparing for graduation! But the learning hasn’t stopped. Lots of reading and data have been key areas of focus this week.
Alice (5T) We did Up-day. We designed our 2021 grade 6 jumpers, which will feature a surfboard in the design.
Will (5T)We have been looking at data. We used data in pie graphs and now we are using a scatter plot to compare our height to our arm span.
Arthur(5T) We have been reading “Call of the Wild” by Jack London for our class novel. It was written in 1903.
Up-Day!
Our students visited the grades they will be moving to next year, getting a taste of what 2021 will have to offer.
BBPS Production - Together
Production this year has been unlike any other. After months of hard work, including auditions, script writing, rehearsals and filming we were thrilled to screen the first ever BBPS production movie “Together” on Wednesday afternoon. We would like to thank everyone at BBPS who came together to help us create a wonderful production. And thank you especially to Ms Wickes for all of her efforts to make sure that Melbourne’s lockdown didn’t stop us from showcasing our talents. A link for viewing at home will be sent via compass.
