OUR FAITH

PRAYER

Loving God,

we thank you for this glad time of year, this Advent season which reminds us of so much, and which reveals so wonderfully the extent of your love. For your coming and coming again in Christ, we thank you in the glory of your name. Amen

We pray ...

We pray for... the candidates who received the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist last weekend, for our Year 6 graduates and for our St Nicholas Community as we journey through the season of Advent.

LITURGY NEWS

THE SEASON OF ADVENT –

Advent comes from the Latin word for an "arrival" or a "coming". Advent is the season when we remember the anticipation of Christ's first coming, and we pray for the return of Christ again. With the beginning of the season of Advent, we begin a new liturgical year.

The Advent wreath is part of our long-standing Catholic tradition. The wreath is made of various evergreens, signifying continuous life. The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent. Three candles are purple and one is rose. The purple candles in particular symbolize the prayer, penance, and preparatory sacrifices and goods works undertaken at this time. The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday, Gaudete Sunday, when the priest also wears rose vestments at Mass; This is the Sunday of rejoicing, because the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over and they are close to Christmas.

The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of His second coming.

FIRST EUCHARIST

Congratulations to the children who celebrated the Sacrament of First Eucharist last Saturday and Sunday. All 4 Masses were a special occasion for the candidates, their families and the parish community. The children were appropriately dressed and we thank our parents for their support in ensuring that the children’s attire truly reflected a ‘sense of the occasion’. A very big thank you and special mention must go to Fr Chris and Deacon Paul for the manner in which they made all  4 Masses so meaningful and special for our children and their families. Thank you also to the Parish choir for supporting our children and for the many members of our Parish and school who have been praying for our children. Mrs Roberts, Mrs Dickie, Mrs Macpherson, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Kellow also need to be thanked for ensuring that our students were well prepared for this important occasion. We pray that this is the first of many encounters our children have with our Lord Jesus, as they continue to seek to become regular participants at our Mass each week.

CHRISTMAS JOY - MUFTI DAY

On Friday 11th December we will be having a 'Christmas Joy' Mufti Day. Students will be allowed to wear Christmas coloured clothing, Christmas shirt, tinsel in hair etc. (no coloured hair spray).
