Year 9 Camp

On Wednesday 2nd December, the Year 9 students and 13 staff members headed off to Eildon, Victoria for a jam-packed three days of adventures.

The boy groups were off to base camp first, to do either whitewater rafting or initiative tasks at the base camp. Meanwhile, the girl groups hiked to the camps in the bush. The girls toughed it out in hot conditions and set up camp in the bush for the night. All the students cooked their own meals on trangeas, with an array of interesting meals being cooked by all.

Day Two started as a cool morning, the girls were given a timed adventure activity, where they had to solve riddles, puzzles and work together as a team. The boys were lucky enough to go whitewater rafting nice and early, on the beautiful Goulburn river, and do some activities at base camp. They then set off to hike up the beautiful hills into the bush camps, whilst the girls came down to base camp to take on the rapids in rafting, or use their teamwork skills to build a raft from barrels and planks of wood, or swing across the pond on a rope. They were also put to the test mentally when they had to use metal planks to cross the pond. All groups did a great job and had a lot of fun doing the activities at base camp. The girls were able to shower and cook their dinner.

The third day came quickly. The remaining girl groups went whitewater rafting or did the base camp activities. Everybody packed up, cleaned up, and before we all knew it, the boys came back from their night in the bush, some exhausted from a 5am start to watch the sunrise whilst eating their breakfast. Soon enough, all the students were reunited back at the base camp and spoilt rotten by the OEG group as they had cooked up a lovely BBQ for all of us. The buses were loaded, goodbyes and thank you’s were said, and off we went, back to Echuca. All the students should be proud of themselves for their incredible efforts throughout the camp, and we hope they all had fun.

A big thank you to Miss James for organising all of this, the OEG group for facilitating the camp, and the staff members for coming and, as usual, being incredible.
