HCC News and Announcements

Changes to Primary Dismissal Time
Primary parents will have received a notification about Primary students being dismissed at 3:15pm this year, with Secondaries dismissed at 3:25pm. The staggered dismissal times worked very effectively last year to reduce numbers in the car park and auditorium and provide a smoother and safer dismissal of students.
Parents will still be required to collect students from the auditorium (for Prep to Grade 4 students) and the front canopy - Grade 5 from the Western or Telstra side of the canopy, Grade 6 from the Eastern or Clayton Road side of the canopy).
Afterschool care will begin at 3:15pm for those students booked in, any Primary student not collected by 3:25pm will be taken into Afterschool Care by their classroom teacher.
Parent Information Evening - Wednesday 3 February
Our year begins again with our Parent Information Evening, happening next Wednesday, 3 February. The details will be sent out but we encourage all Primary and Secondary parents to attend.
The Primary event begins at 6:30pm in the auditorium for a brief presentation before parents head to their child’s classroom to meet their teacher. Parents with more than one Primary student will be able to move to each of their child’s classrooms. The evening will conclude at 8:00pm.
Secondary Parents are asked to arrive in the auditorium at 7:00pm for a general presentation, before going to either a VCE presentation, Year 7 Presentation, or Year 9 Year of Challenge Presentation. The evening will conclude at 8:30pm with supper in the Salt café and an opportunity to meet with the Secondary staff.
Physical Changes around Heatherton Christian College
During the Holidays there have been a number of changes to the school that have improved the facilities and will benefit the student experience at HCC for the children.
Perhaps the most exciting change is one that the Student Representative Council had identified as the issue that students wanted to see improved, this being the renovation of the main student bathroom block. As you can see in the before and after photos, the bathrooms look fantastic! An added feature in them is the addition of student artwork displayed on the cubicle doors - some are already in place from last year's Year 9 Art students.
A special thank you and acknowledgment to some of our parents who assisted with the design, concepts and colours (Sue Faure, Judith Jansen, Renee Carter and Dina Man) as well as a special acknowledgment to our builder, Luke Ham from Manuka Developments - he comes highly recommended and has a long history or work with our College. More to come as new artwork is produced and displayed.
The computer room has had a full upgrade with new benches, improved layout and a full suite of Windows computers for all students to use (including our first class of VCE Applied Computing). On the topic of Information Technology, the Grade 5s and 6s will have use of class sets of Surface Go devices, replacing the previous tablet devices that had reached their use-by date.
There have been upgrades of furniture for the Science rooms, French room and Room G3 (in preparation for the G rooms housing the 'E School' students and the need for a more flexible learning space).
Other rooms have been painted as we continue to improve the look, feel and functionality of the school facilities and learning environment.
Year 9 Year of Challange WASP Camp
We are excited to start another new year in the ‘Year of Challenge’ program in 2021. As always, the year begins with the WASP camp in Term 1. We are thankful that it is able to go ahead as planned this year and know that it will be an extremely beneficial time for the Year 9 class as they grow closer together and closer to God. It is a camp that constantly comes up as one of the highlights of a student’s journey through HCC. This year the camp is taking place in Week 4 (February 15-19). The Year 9 students will receive a hard copy of all permission slips on their first day of school, however digital copies will also be accessible through Compass.
Should you have any questions in regards to WASP Camp 2021, please contact me via the College office or through email at jeremy.richards@hcc.vic.edu.au.
