Message from Mr Russo

Dear Parents

As we continue on through our Stage 4 restrictions, it is reassuring to watch the days growing longer in light – as sign we are moving to brighter warmer weather. I hope this email finds you all safe and well – it is important to look after each other while we are managing the tighter restrictions as families. Be kind to each other, if there is a day where the learning is not going to plan, please feel free to let your child’s teacher know that you are having a break from learning so as to reset and go again the next day. In the years ahead, when you look back as a family to reminisce, it is my hope that this will be a period of life that you will remember in a positive way, how you all worked together to navigate a very tricky time in the world, much less Mordialloc. Our staff are in regular contact with you all and are always available online or via email to help and support.

During this remote learning period we have much to celebrate and throughout this newsletter we will see what our students have been up to across the various levels and the creative ways learning and learning responses have taken place.

Foundation Students “100” days of learning celebration

This event took place last Wednesday and lots of fun was had by all – we may have been in our homes but we were all able to come together online to share this memorable day. This will be something I’m sure our students and their families will remember for many years. Included in today’s newsletter are images of the fun we had last week.  A big thank you to Mrs Yass, Mrs Finster and Mrs Hampton for putting together a wonderful day of celebrations and learning for our Foundation students.

Enjoy this wonderful video of why our Foundation Students like school!

Year 1/2 Persuasive Writing – A trip to Disneyland: Yes Please!

Over the past few days I have received a number of requests in many different formats (letters, slideshows and movies) requesting a Year 1/2 trip to Disneyland.  Just the elixir to cure the time in lockdown. Interestingly enough, the Disneyland site has experienced its longest closure in its history this year – not even the effects of WW2 kept Disneyland closed for this long.  I think this would be a great idea, however I will have seek advice from the Prime Minister about travel arrangements!!  See more examples of the great work done by our 1/2 students on the St Brigid's News and Events Page.

Parent Teacher Conferences

These are going to take place on the 8th and 9th of September – bookings will go live to families on the 26th of August. These meetings will need to be via an online format and will look slightly different to our regular Student Led Conferences we have each year at the end of term 2.

3/4 NGV  Portraiture Exhibition

The Grade 3/4 children were very lucky to participate in a virtual excursion to the NGV last Wednesday. We visited the Art of Portraiture exhibition, looking at portraits by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Trevor Turbo Brown and a sculpture by Ron Mueck. The students shared some fantastic ideas and impressed us with their recognition of artworks. Well done and a huge thank you to Mrs Kimball for organising such a fantastic experience during Lockdown!

School Fees

For those in our community who find themselves in an unexpected difficult financial situation, please make contact with me  by phone or via my email address: Tel:9580 4518 or Principal@sbmord.catholic.edu.au so that alternate plans can be arranged in relation to fee payments and/or pre-existing direct debit commitments. Unemployment or reduced remuneration is a reality given the changes that are being imposed from our government/s and we are here to support families who are effected by unexpected changes to employment.

Office Closed

As a result of having to comply with workplace restrictions around staffing density here on site, our school office is closed. Any matters you need to refer to Tracey or Michele can be done so via their emails. Both Tracey and Michele have remote offices set up and will be able to support you with any relevant needs. Tracey’s email is office@sbmord.catholic.edu.au & Michele’s email is finance@sbmord.catholic.edu.au. matters related to classroom content must go via your child’s teacher/s.
