School Attendance Followup

In following up on Mrs Jager's article on school attendance, I remind all parents that regular full-day attendance at school is a legal requirement and essential if students are to maximise their potential and not slip back in their learning.

NSW Health advice needs to be followed due to the COVID-19 pandemic with fever, cough, sore/ scratchy throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste, or smell.

CSO Armidale's Guidelines for the Management of Student Attendance in the Armidale Diocesan Schools System reminds parents of their responsibility in:

  • enrolling their children of compulsory school age in a government or registered non- government school or registering them with the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA),
  • ensuring that their children attend school regularly
  • explaining, to the school, the absences of their children promptly and within seven days,  and
  • taking measures to resolve attendance issues involving their children.

At St Joseph's we value our partnership with parents in educating their children. While parents are legally responsible for the regular attendance of their children, school staff, and CSO Armidale, as a part of compliance and duty of care, monitor part or whole day absences through COMPASS.  We encourage the setting of positive attendance habits and offer support to families.
