VCAL Report

The VCAL administration were delighted to hear that they had been awarded a Merit Grant in the Victorian Schools Garden Program. This was quite an achievement as over 450 entries from 265 schools across the state were submitted. The voucher is for $250 and will be used to develop a welcome garden to the agriculture patch. This will comprise a sign and a native garden utilising sustainability and resource management.

Regarding course work, the film "Kenny" has enabled students to gain an understanding of the seven key employment skills and their transferability. These have been analysed and applied to the class projects of the bird boxes, chicken coop and the agricultural patch. Also, as part of the Work Related Skills Unit, students are researching an industry of their choice in order to present employment opportunities and an understanding of these roles. Further investigation involves researching the workplace conditions, wage entitlements and interviewing of a worker in that industry to gain an insight into current workplace issues and the roles and responsibilities of employees and employers. In all VCAL students are getting a sound basis in theory and practice to enhance their employability skills and vocational interests.
