Year 11 & 12 Subject Information for 2021

Term 3 has started and our subject information for Year 11 & 12 will be presented to students soon.  As we are unable to present this to families in an evening presentation due to current restrictions, LCS will be sharing subject information to current students in a special presentation during school on Thursday 6th August.  All current parents will be able to view this information after the presentation including some helpful videos via The Hub & our school Vimeo Channel.

We have a great range of subject choices at LCS! From Monday 10th August, current Year 10 parents will be able to arrange appointments to choose subjects for 2021 with Mrs Fitzallen via the Hub and current Year 11 students can arrange an appointment to choose subjects with Mrs Lake.

PROSPECTIVE FAMILIES will be able to view 2021 subject information via our website, vimeo channel and Facebook from Monday 10th August.  Pre enrolment interviews for new Senior school students will also begin after this time.  We look forward to sharing more information soon.

Year 12 Hoodies are here!

After much planning from Hannah Socorro & Tom Sladden, our Year 12 students have received some special hoodies. It's a LCS tradition that endures, as Year 12 is celebrated by a specially designed top & the opportunity to wear this for the rest of the school year. Great timing for all this cold weather! Congratulations Year 12 and well done to Hannah & Tom for all the work involved. Looks awesome!

Men of Faith - Prayer Meeting

Praying as fathers is a manly privilege that we have been given by the Lord. And with the challenging disruptions of 2020, it seems like a great time for dads of LCS to come together and pray. Our school in Launceston has such an opportunity to be a refuge and an oasis in a dry and dusty land - fertile soil for kids to find their place, their joy, their identity in the Lord, and be inspired to live wholehearted, faithful and joyful lives for Him. We need to be praying for these things with the spiritual authority the Lord has given to us as fathers.

We will have a ‘Men of Faith’ prayer meeting on August 9. Details are:

  • Sunday afternoon - 2.45-4.00
  • LCS Staff Room - COVID Safety Plans in place
  • (If unwell, please don’t attend but enjoy praying from home - you are still welcome in the Lord’s Presence as He does not need the protection of social distancing like we do!)
  • Any praying father/uncle/grandfather, connected with LCS, is welcome to attend - see you there!
  • Further information - Graham Poole, Andrew Goelst or LCS Office

"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" 2 Corinthians 7:14

The Rite Journey update

In order to celebrate the first half of the year, the four Rite Journey classes engaged in some fierce competition throughout the closing weeks of Term 2, for the privilege to be awarded TRJ Cup Champions, and the added benefit of a Term 3 pizza party. This competition was a great success and offered many opportunities to reflect on the nature of winning and losing in ways that are constructive for the communities in which we live. Each TRJ class had moments of success and the competition opened right up on the final ‘double points’ day, competing in lateral thinking puzzles, pasta tower construction, frisbee throwing, and the culminating stretcher carry around the oval. At the end of the afternoon TRJ 3 emerged as champions and enjoyed their Pizza Party during Term 3 Bliss-time.

Our Term 3 topics are currently being communicated with home. I wanted to take the opportunity to share some of the resources we will be working through as we unpack some ideas around listening and emotional literacy over the next few weeks. I have put together this infographic explaining levels of listening according to Otto Scharmer and his team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Brene Brown also offers a fantastic explanation of empathetic listening in this short you tube video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Evwgu369Jw

Lastly, please find a scanned page below from the TRJ Guidebook, presenting Robert Plutchick’s concept of 8 basic emotions and the need to be consciously aware of how our emotions affect us and the people around us.

I would also like to finish with a reminder of Paul's words to the Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

Please take the time to remind your children of this amazing truth, that Jesus offers the ultimate emotional support and guidance as they travail the paths of their individual circumstances.

In Christ alone,

James McGeachy

TRJ Coordinator

LCS Building Plan Update

Early in 2018, the LCS Building Committee commenced work on a 5 year plan to review the current classroom buildings and plan to build suitable facilities to accommodate the growing needs of the school. This review identified specific areas that should be developed as part of the 5-year plan.  Two new Year 6 classrooms and a new new Junior school toilet block were completed last year as the first stage of this plan. The next stage is to build another 4 classroom POD similar to our Year 11/12 block which will have 2 specific drama rooms plus 2 general purpose classrooms. An additional music classroom will be constructed adjacent to our 2 existing music rooms with space for itinerant music teachers. The building work will commence in August and is due for completion in March next year.  If you would like to see the plans for both areas please click on the documents below.

A reminder about parking

Please take time to read our Parking Policy for our school to avoid any issues with safety that may occur when dropping off or picking up children at our school.  A full copy can be downloaded below.

Relief Teachers needed

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified teachers to join our Junior & Middle School Relief pool. Relief teachers may be called on at short notice to cover sickness and absences of regular classroom teachers.

  • Practicing Christians, actively involved in their local church and able to subscribe to the School’s Mission Statement and Educational Creed
  • Registered with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board
  • Registered with a current Working With Vulnerable People (Employment) Card

To apply, please download the Teaching Application Form below and email your application to Mrs Katrina Barracu – barracuk@lcs.tas.edu.au

Prep Fun in class

Our Prep students are really enjoying their class activities at the moment and here's some proof from Miss Marshall & Miss van Zetten's classes that was caught on camera today. It looks like our Prep students have lots of fun at LCS and we so pleased!

Fun in the sun with Kinder Hill

Term 3 began with some sunshine and play time for our Kinder students who relished the opportunity to get back together with friends.  It was a wonderful to see our students playing together outside, exploring sandpits, building houses and smelling the flowers.  Kinder pictures remind us of the great joy that these students have coming to the school in their very first year.  Here's some pictures to brighten your day!

Senior Design and Production (Wood)

One of the popular subjects in Senior School is Design and Production (Wood) and Object Design. These subjects allow students, under the watchful eyes of skilled teachers, develop and create amazing projects in wood. Projects range from small intricate pieces to large items of furniture. Senior students are currently working on their individual projects and it will be great to see what their final pieces are!

Prep to Year 2 Assembly

Our Junior students are still participating in assemblies at school despite Covid restrictions not allowing parents to attend.  This is providing  some great encouragement between year levels and assemblies have been split into two, with Prep to Year 2 and Year 3 - 6 respectively. Here are some pics taken during a recent Prep to Year 2 Assembly where 2 Heys shared samples of some of the projects they had worked on- designing their own version of the suburbs of Hobart, treasure maps, symmetry pictures and bird art.  Lovely to see some "normality" continuing at LCS.

LCS Rock band - Red Flora performs

LCS rock band, Red Flora had the privilege of performing in a Rock Challenge Showcase at the Italian Club in Prospect recently. Comprised of Senior students it was an awesome experience for the band to perform in front of a crowd! LCS music teacher, Mr Swift and some eager senior students supported them on the night and captured some great images. Fantastic work Red Flora and great to see our students sharing their gifts with our local community.

In memory of Zander Chugg

Three of our Year 11 students have created an initiative to honour the memory of Zander Chugg, a Senior student who recently went to be with his Lord and Saviour.  If you'd like to take contribute, please read below:

We recently lost a peer and friend to many of us here.  Zander loved music. Talking, listening and playing the guitar was a major part of his life.  As a way of remembering his journey here at LCS we would like to, as a student-driven commemoration, to have a guitar made in Zander's honour. This guitar would then be donated to the music department for the use of students for many years to come.

For this to happen we need to pull together and raise funds. To be a part of this you can either give cash to Mrs Barracu (or the office ladies) or students Brieanna Hill, Evelyn Gill or Ruby Ufflemann.  EFTPOS is also available at the school office.  Donations can also be made via bank deposit  - please use the following account details ensuring, the description is marked as “Zander”.

BSB - 067600

Acc - 28008479

Any size of donation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Brieanna Hill, Evelyn Gill and Ruby Ufflemann
