Alumni Spotlight - Bethany Thompson

Bethany Thompson

Bethany was kind enough recently to share her experiences at JMSS and what she has been up to since graduating in 2017!

What have you been doing since you left JMSS?

Currently, I am in my final year of a Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree at Deakin University. I am majoring in biochemistry and love everything to do with my course. I also work part time in the deli at Woolworths.

During your time as a student at JMSS, what did you like most?

The supportive spirit of not only the teachers but the students at JMSS too. Everyone who is at the school wants to be there and wants to help everyone else also!

Was there anyone who inspired you?

Mr Corkill inspired me because you can see that he loves his job and wants every one of his students to do as well as they can. He gave up many hours to me, especially to help with my maths struggles.

What's your favourite memory of JMSS?

The Reef and Rainforest trip as I got to spend quality time with my friends and favourite teachers outside of the school setting. It really helped to strengthen my bonds with everyone further, and I made friends for life.

What advice would you give to the current JMSS Students?

Take every opportunity that is given to you. There were so many opportunities that were given to me, and I turned down because I didn’t think I could do it; now that I’m out of school I regret not doing things that teachers suggested for me to do.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I like to spend time with my family and friends (and my dogs ha ha), and play music

What's next for you?

I’m hoping that in the next few years I will be enrolled in a Doctorate of Medicine course, and fully on my way to my dream job of being an obstetrician!
