Young Change Agent's Coronavirus Challenge

Two teams of JMSS students (Calming Cooking - Xiaotong(Lisa) LIU, Leonie CHIM, Hita Keshav and Tara Najibi) (Covid Care - Saanvi Arcot, Muntaka Naoar & Danna Lei Pabayo) have been participating in the Coronavirus Student Design Competition run by the Monash Tech School and Young Change Agents over the Term 2 Period.

The project was an in-depth design thinking program that challenged students to consider solutions to problems we are currently facing due to Covid-19 and Social Isolation. The program was developed by Young Change Agents, supported by the Monash Tech School and Telstra.

Lisa, Hita, Leonie and Tara's project aims to provide a tool that is focused around the buried technique of Mindful cooking. In addition to addressing the problem of stress and unhealthy eating habits in young people, their project seeks to leverage the benefits of mindful cooking through recipes, videos and tutorials via social media. The team believes their project will also have added benefits such as helping young people develop their cooking, financial planning, and cleaning skills, ultimately helping them to be more independent.

Lisa, Hita, Leonie and Tara's project was very well received by the Pitch Panel who thought their idea was fantastic and has great potential. These students now have a second opportunity to receive mentoring towards the iAwards final competition. Regardless of the competition results, Lisa, Hita, Leonie and Tara have shown a growth mindset, an ability to consider customers and their needs and problem solve using design thinking.

Saanvi, Muntaka and Danna created COVID-CARE which is a gift-giving non-profit organisation specialising in delivering care packages to healthcare workers. The Monash Tech School and the Young Change Agents team were stunned with the efforts that they had put in, and have invited the Covid Care team to participate in the Design Sprint 2 hosted by Young Change Agents in Week 2 and 3 of next term. In this program the students will take their project further to develop their concept and create a pitch that is ready to be presented to the industry with the hopes of receiving support in bringing their project to life and the associated prize.
