Andrew Chisholm

Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

As we reach the end of term 2 it has been pleasing to see some normality returning to JMSS and the buzz of classroom activities returning. We have been fortunate to have been able to access some facilities in the University to spread out classes and this week has seen our Unit 3 VCE students complete assessments in most of their subjects.

Normally this week would have been the first week of semester 2 and VCE students would have been starting Units 2 and 4 respectively. With semester one finishing at the end of term, semester 2 has been pushed back 2 weeks and the normal end of semester reports have been pushed back accordingly and now will be published early in Term 3.

VCAA calendar updates

Yesterday VCAA published a number of dates that clarify how the end of the Year 12 year will look.

Year 12 students will get their results on Wednesday 30th December. This will be a tricky date for families who are away holidaying and catching up with family. With the publishing of results there are always JMSS staff on hand as well as staff who can assist with change of preference etc. There is an information session (run virtually) for all students and parents to discuss the modified processes related to VTAC applications and VCE results tentatively scheduled for July 28. This session will cover all the intracacies related to how the 2020 processes will work.

The end of year exam timetable has also been published on the VCAA website.

Monash Scholars Program

Congratulations to the following Year 10 students who have selected as Monash Scholars for 2020. The Monash Scholars program is for high achieving Year 10 students that involves a number of events and programs run by Monash University to develop scholastic achievement over the next two and a half years. The process for selection is extensive and these students should be proud of their achievements to date. The students are Alexandra Keany, Aleena Elizabeth, Hita Keshav, Jemott Mohan, Elizabeth Chan, Dulvin Bandara, Stephanie Zhang, Emily Papastamopoulos, Leonie Chim and Taite McKenzie.

Upcoming events in Term 3

One of the major events for Year 10 and 11 students in term 3 is the selection of courses for 2021. There will be  virtual information nights for Year 10 and Year 11 students and parents to discuss the processes involved in course selection in week 3 of term 3. More details will follow early in term 3
