Music News

Jenny Coleman - Music Specialist

This term during Music classes, we have been watching some short YouTube videos that the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) have put together. These musicians have been working from their home music rooms, unable to work together due to the COVID19 restrictions. Students have really enjoyed watching these videos so I have included the links below.

Your children may like to share them with you:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6xpxKRVF6c WASDO string section performing “Pizzicato Polka” by Struass

All instrumental rehearsals are up and running. Students involved in these ensembles are expected to attend: String Orchestra, Wind Band, Chamber Strings and Recorder Ensemble:

  • String Orchestra: 7:30am Mondays in the School Hall (with Mr Lobbia)
  • Wind Band: 3:15pm – 4:15pm Mondays in the Music Room.
  • Chamber Strings: 7:45am Tuesdays in the Music Room.
  • Recorder Ensemble: 3:00pm – 3:45pm Tuesdays in the Music Room

Students involved in early morning ensemble rehearsals (String Orchestra and Chamber Strings) must enter the school through the Castlereagh Close Gate (or be dropped off at this gate). All other gates to the school will be locked. It would also be best to pick your child up from this gate at the end of an afternoon rehearsal (Wind Band and Recorder Ensemble.)

Junior and Senior Choirs will not be resuming yet unfortunately. Hopefully restrictions will ease and we may be able to recommence rehearsals soon. Parents will be contacted as to when this will occur. In the meantime, please encourage your child to practice singing their choir songs on CONNECT or by logging onto the Massed Choir website.

The Massed Choir Festival, which was planned for the end of Term 3, has unfortunately been cancelled. The organisers of this festival are planning to do something different in its place in Term 4 – I will keep you posted! We will certainly be using all the repertoire we are learning from the festival in our own concert at the end of the year.

Piano auditions for Wind Band and Chamber Strings are scheduled for Friday 5th June (Week 6) at lunchtime – first lunch (please bring your lunch).

Drum kit auditions for Wind Band and Chamber Strings are scheduled for Friday 12th June (Week 7) at lunchtime first lunch (please bring your lunch).

If you are auditioning, please see Ms Coleman to confirm your audition time.
