Spotlight: Year 5/6 Community

 Focus: Positive Self Talk

Over the last couple of weeks during remote learning, the Year 5/6 community has had a focus on positive self-talk.

Students used magazine pictures, images printed from the Internet, or their own drawings to create a collage inside a mirror template. The idea was that this shows what you see when you view your reflection, you see your interests, skills and accomplishments.

Students were also asked to consider what the worst thing that could happen would be if they didn’t do as well as they would like in a variety of scenarios:

  • Reading aloud in front of the school
  • Surfing
  • Trying a new hairstyle
  • Introducing yourself to someone new
  • Learning the piano

Students answered: What should I try? What's the worst that can happen? What's the best that can happen?

Here are some examples of the Year 5/6 students' work.

Healthy Lunchbox Ideas

Your children are heading back to school which means time to pull out the dusty lunchboxes and start packing them again! It can be a very tedious process, trying to think of nutritious snacks that your children will actually eat! We are here to help! Read on for some scrumptious lunchbox ideas.

  • Monster sandwich: (my personal childhood favourite) wholemeal bread with mashed banana, sultanas and honey. Yum!
  • Celery boats: celery with peanut butter and even sultanas!
  • Pikelets: pre-make some mini pikelets for the week with some berries!
  • Rice paper rolls with plenty of hidden vegetables- yummo!
  • Tiger bread: wholemeal bread with vegemite and cheese stripes (your kids will love this if they barrack for Richmond!)
  • Veggie sticks with hummus
  • Energy balls: mix oats, honey, dates, peanut butter, cocoa and any other healthy things you can sneak in! Then roll the mixture into bowls
  • Home made muesli bars: this is my favourite recipe! https://bakeplaysmile.com/best-homemade-muesli-bars/

Is your lunchbox nutritional?
