DEBATING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

Even in isolation debating is still running remotely, thanks to the wonders of online conferencing! Natalia Fakos, Jamila Manser and Boyd Hill (pictured) of Year 8 recently participated in a debate on the topic “That we should limit the number of cars that each household can own”. These three students debated against Brauer College in Warrnambool and won, with Natalia being the best overall speaker. Congratulations!

Dromana College students also entered the Debaters Association of Victoria Public Speaking Competition. Students had to prepare a 5-6 minute persuasive speech on a topic of their choosing. Sam Howes in Year 10 spoke on the topic of “How the media can influence society” and did very well.

Online debating results have just been released and we would like to congratulate Rani Thuan, Sam Howes and Bonnie Salt  on winning their debate on Monday against Mac Rob Girls High School! They spoke very well!

Thank you to the teachers who let the debaters out of class early.

Other speakers who did an amazing job in their debate against Mac Rob are Natalia Fakos, Poppy Treadwell and Boyd Hill.

Well done to all of our debaters and public speakers this term for handling the adversity of online learning and continuing to excel.
