Welcome to the Bee-Bots

Bee-Bots are programmable floor robots designed to introduce children to sequencing, coding, programming and directional language.

We are now the proud owner of six Bee-Bots and, in the coming weeks and into next term, the Year Prep to 2 students will be introduced to them. The possibilities to integrate the Bee-Bots into other areas of the curriculum including literacy and maths are extensive.

Here's a photo of the staff getting the first play at last week's staff meeting.

STEM

Last week I talked about STEM as an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

As mentioned, the employer demand for STEM qualifications is high and will only continue to increase with constant developments in technology.

This week the Year 5/6 students completed a STEM challenge that required them to design and build a bridge to transport the weight of four matchbox cars over a distance of 30cm. The only materials the students could work with were paddle pop sticks and masking tape. Here are some photos of the students working collaboratively within their small groups.
