FIRST AID

A fantastic group of year 10 and 11 students participated in the two-day course to learn basic skills in first aid including allergies and CPR. The Surf Life Saving trainers could only give the Lake Illawarra High School students the highest praise for their polite manner, keen interest and high participation levels. Well done for a fantastic effort.

Links to learning Graduation

10 students in Year 9 have been involved in the Links to Learning course run by the Multicultural Community Council of Illawarra. The program operated for one day a week from Term 2 till the end of the year. Students had the opportunity to complete courses in First Aid, Retail and the Bronze Duke of Ed, assist and volunteer with various agencies and test their personal strength and stamina in new experiences, challenges and treks.

The student’s graduation dinner at Panorama House was an excellent way to honour students on the work they did all year. Congratulations to Blayde, Ryan.B. Ryan.D. Daniel, Blake, Cilla, Cody, Sadi, Kenneth and Chloe.

A special thanks goes to Bec and Storm and their team at the Multicultural Community Council of Illawarra, who have done a wonderful job after taking over this year from Michael. Lake Illawarra HS is very proud to be associated with this excellent initiative.

Lots of people are looking for employment at this time of year – either a part time job for the summer school holidays, or full time employment as a school leaver or gap year student, or even as a graduate!

Depending on where you live might influence the availability of positions, but the retail and hospitality industries tend to be busy over the Christmas and summer period especially! So… to find a job:

  • Update your resume – see your school careers website where you will find a template to do this under the ‘student secure area’

CASUAL EMPLOYMENT

Also, now is a great time for students to be looking for casual employment. Retail stores are recruiting Christmas casual staff and local hospitality businesses are preparing for the busy summer holiday period. A reminder that any positions I hear about are shared on the Lake Illawarra High School Careers Facebook page. Resume and cover letter templates are available in the Student Area of https://www.lakeillawarrahighcareers.com and I am happy for students to bring drafts in to the Careers Office for feedback and job hunting tips or they can email me directly with their draft.

FIRST AID COURSE

All of year 10 are invited to participate in a two-day workshop to complete their First Aid Certificate. Notes will be distributed to students and the workshop will be on the 29th- 30th November. This will be a heavily subsidized course to ensure all can participate. Any students who missed out last year are also welcome to participate.
