Principal's Message
As 2018 draws to a close I would like to thank our students, our parents, our community and our staff for making this year such a productive and enjoyable one at Lake Illawarra High.
I have been reflecting on the achievements of our students this year and can honestly say that I have never been prouder. Despite often mountainous hurdles, our students continue to pursue their dreams and with the support of both their families and the wonderful staff at Lake High, they usually achieve their goals.
This has been reinforced as I had the pleasure of speaking to our Year 12 students who came up to the school after receiving their ATAR. Nearly all of these wonderful young adults have found themselves early entry into university, apprenticeships, traineships or jobs.
Congratulations go to all of these students, particularly to our DUX for 2018, Tori Feeney who also managed to make the Distinguished Achievers list as well!
As I mentioned earlier, our school has certainly made some giant leaps forward in 2018 and we will be continuing with some more exciting initiatives next year. All of the things we do are designed to support and extend our students and to get them to realise both their potential and dreams.
Again a big thankyou to the amazing staff we have here at Lake Illawarra High for the wonderful support you have given our students this year.....I know that they are the driving force behind everthing that you do. Also thankyou to our community for the support you have given your youngsters and the school over the last 12 months. It has been greatly appreciated.
We are all looking forward to an exciting 2019!

Hello to all students, parents, carers and staff. Once again Term 4 has ended at a frantic pace and I am sure that all our staff and students are looking forward to a well deserved break to recharge the ‘batteries’ to get ready for an exciting year of learning ahead.
We have had a busy term filled with many student academic and sporting achievements, I would like to pay particular mention to our Athletics Star, Chelsea Ezeoke for her outstanding achievement at the recent Australian All schools Athletics Championships, where she won gold in the 4x 100m relay, as well as gold and a National record in the 400m. Well done Chelsea on your great achievement and I am looking forward to seeing you compete in 2019.
On the 23rd of November, our school supported White Ribbon Day. This event was organised by Mr Paul Empson, our Youth Outreach officer and allowed for each of the year groups to listen to a talk about what White Ribbon Day stands for and for each of us to make an oath for the prevention of men's violence against women and children. A big thank you also needs to go to Mr Davison and his year 10 boys, who wrote a song for White Ribbon Day and performed this for our school.
Last Friday, Mr McAndrew, Mr Price and the SRC team organised our Pink Stumps day. Pink Stumps Day is a great way for our school to support the McGrath Foundation to help place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia. The team sold cupcakes and pink hair spray, as well as organising our pink mufti day and cricket match. It was great to see out staff and students supporting such a great cause and a big thank you to the team for their efforts in organising the event.
On the 4th of December, we had our year 7 2019, Orientation day and evening. It is always great to see all the exciting faces who are eager to take that big step to High School life. Thank you all our staff who were involved in the day, your help in organising and running lessons is much appreciated. Term 4 has been a very successful transition time for our year 6 students, as we have had many of them up to our school over the term completing many different activities. In particular, I would like to farewell our Warilla North Primary School students who have spent the past 3 weeks working with us, I hope your time here has been fun and we look forward to seeing you and all our future 2019 year 7 students next year.
Last week we had the release of the 2018 HSC results and to all our Year 12 students I would like to wish them well in their future academic endeavours, post school to work destinations or whatever their future holds. The exam supervisors would also like to pass on their congratulations to all students on their approach and attitude to the HSC exams. Their punctuality and application allowed the exams to run smoothly and on time.
Year 11 students are well into their Year 12 course work this term and are now officially Year 12 students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for adopting a more serious approach to their studies in their HSC year. If you are experiencing class work difficulties or a personal problem make sure you contact the school for assistance, don‘t leave it till it is too late and get overwhelmed. There is always a way to sort out problems if you put your hand up early
Myself and Mr Meizer would like to thank the entire Lake Illawarra High Community for making this school such a welcoming and supporting school. This is a great place for students to achieve their potential because great things happen here and the support that staff give to our kids. We look forward to working with you all next year.
I hope Santa is kind, so enjoy the holidays and if you are travelling, have a safe and restful time and we will see you all in 2019.
