EMR Year 7 Girls Netball

On the same day as Brentwood’s Learning Conferences, our Year 7 Girls played their EMR round of netball at Jells Park.

The team had trained well leading up to what we expected to be a competitive and skilled day of netball.  We were right! Rowville was our first game and it was a cracker! Tough at the ball, strong hands, solid passing, good leads, accurate shooting for goal, tight defence and overall quality team play, were skills displayed by both teams the entire game. We lost 16-14 in a game that could have gone either way.

Camberwell came out firing in the second game.  They took an early 5-0 lead and from there we were chasing.  Our girls fought hard, and after a solid performance in their first game, were feeling the pressure.  Unfortunately, we lost 21-9.

After two losses and two very intense games, we were determined to play hard, enjoy our game and have a win. We played Ashwood in our third game, starting and finishing very strong, winning 36-6.

We finished out of the finals race, but the girls are determined and enthusiastic to come back next year and have another go at going one better.

A great group of girls, whose manner, behaviour and determination throughout was fantastic.

Our student coaches worked well with the team at trainings and during the competitions, giving great feedback and strategies to improve their game play. Thank you!

Brentwood’s Junior Boys’ Netball Team are EMR Champions

The team played in the EMR competition on Monday August 30. The boys played a number of tough matches to make it to the semi-finals but developed their skills and teamwork over the day, showing great improvement. In the final, the boys showed exceptional skill and maturity in their play to beat Camberwell High School, a team which Brentwood lost to earlier in the day.

The whole team would like to thank student coaches Gemma Dearness, Beth Van Holsteyn, Hayley Smith and Kasey Thompson, who set an excellent example for the players and were instrumental in the boys’ preparation and success.

Congratulations boys and good luck at State!
