My career experiences

4 years in Wagga Wagga Small Schools (Tarcutta/Uranquinty), 5 years in Hackney,

London UK in a two-form Primary School of 460 students. I mostly taught stage three (Years 5 and 6) during that time, but while I was in the Wagga small schools there were a few days a week I taught Kindergarten to Year 6 in the one classroom which was a challenge, but great fun. I have taught music since I was in high school, mostly tutoring and small group guitar and drums.

Why I became a teacher

I had some brilliant teachers at school in Young, and they went above and beyond to help me throughout primary and high school.  I wanted to try and help other children through their school years and help set them up for life after school.

Favourite teaching successes

I have experienced some really great musical and sport successes during my time in the Wagga Small Schools.  It was great to get children involved in things they  had never done before. The school I worked at in London was very diverse.  We celebrated many successes especially for students from other countries as there were a lot of students who did not speak English as a first language. I was proud to be a part of the school who received various awards for the success of disadvantaged students.  What I enjoyed most was seeing my year 6 cohort at the end of the year ready, prepared and excited to head into high school.

Why I love teaching at BCS:

The community, staff and connection between infants/primary and the high school are fantastic. We have so many opportunities for students to show success and growth, both personally and academically. I look forward to what the future holds at BCS.

Something you don’t know about  me:

I was part of a group that got a Guiness World Record in 2017.
