Tournament of Minds

TOM 2019

Congratulations to our grade 5-6 TOM team for 2019; Corei, Ellie, James, Kiki, Olivia, Sophia and Sophie.  Over the course of 6 weeks, these students brainstormed, problem solved, practised team work and rehearsed their way to be awarded Honours on Tournament Day, placing them in the top third for their spontaneous and long term challenges.  Sophia describes their experience below.

This year, the 2019 T.O.M team went to compete in the Tournament of the Minds competition on the 28th of August.

Tournament of the minds is a competition that consists of 2 challenges. A long term challenge, and a spontaneous challenge. For the long term challenge we had a choice of 4 challenges. Language and literature, The arts, a stem challenge and a social sciences challenge. We chose the arts challenge which consisted of remaking the wizard of oz to make it the wizard of Australia. We had to write a script, make props and sets, and make costumes. We weren’t allowed any outside help and we only had $75 to spend.

On the day of the competition, we were all nervous yet confident. After 6 weeks of giving up recesses, lunchtimes and class time, our hard work finally paid off.
