On an auspicious night, surrounded by people in sparkling hats and blowers at the ready, Gerald sat in awe as his Mother’s baking skills as they were presented in front of him; a double layered chocolate cake. As Gerald was sung “happy birthday” by his peers and his best friend Fred, he watched his mother enter the room with a box. It had no special aesthetics or wrapping paper. Gerald was disappointed…

…The water was so refreshing and Jeff laughed as he thought about the people cooped up in their houses, too scared to come down to the beach. “How about you show Mama your swimming skills?” Jeff’s Mum called from the beach.
