Year 5 Swan Hill Camp

On Tuesday 22nd October, Grade 5 went on camp to Swan Hill. On the journey to Swan Hill, we had several stops. One of the stops was at Bendigo Mine where we got to go down in a mine for an hour and learnt about the history of mining. After our adventure in the mine, we went panning for gold.

When we finally arrived at our camp site, we put our bags in our cabins, relaxed and played games. After an hour or so, we had dinner. After eating dinner, we went to the sound and lights show at The Pioneer Settlement.

On the second day of camp, we went back to The Pioneer Settlement, but not to see the Sound and Lights Show, instead to do activities like; blacksmithing, dressing up as a Pioneer, rope-making, butter churning, drop-logging and going to school. We all had a lot of fun doing all of the activities. After doing all of the activities, a woman taught us about the Aboriginal culture, their people and how they lived and what their money was. Then we went on a cruise to New South Wales and back. After going on the cruise, we went on an old boat called the Gem and learnt things about the Gem. After a great day at The Pioneer Settlement, we got lost at space in a Planetarium. We learnt a bunch of information about space, suns, planets and stars. We also saw a funny video about being in space and zero gravity. After the Planetarium, we went back to camp all tired and sleepy.

On the third day of Grade 5 camp, we went on a nature walk and learnt things more information about Aboriginals and their history.  After being in the nature, we went to an artistic art gallery for a while. Then we went to The Pioneer Settlement for the last time to buy lollies and souvenirs and riding in old-fashioned cars and riding in a horse carriage. After being in the sun, we went swimming in a swimming pool for an hour playing games and having lots of fun. After being in the water, we dried ourselves of by playing sports like soccer and basketball. We went back to the camp site. After eating dinner, we had great fun playing in the Trivia Night, but it got interrupted by a ghost of the cow, Flowerpot. After looking at Flowerpot, we went back to Trivia Night and we found out that The Nuggets won!

On the last day of camp, we went to Echuca to learn more information plus being on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. After that, we drove all the way back home!

Thank you to all the teachers who gave up their time to organise a great camp and to take us on camp as well.
