OSHC Comittee

A warm welcome to the new school year from the OSHC Committee.

Our role as committee members is to act as an advisory board to the Coordinator and listen to any suggestions from Parents and Carers in our vibrant school community.  As a committee we are always so excited to see how OSHC operates but also how professional, engaging and supportive this service is and how much it helps us to balance our busy lives!

We are always working towards new and exciting initiatives to make this already amazing service create new educational, community and social experiences for our children.

The OSHC educators are an incredible resource and are continually striving to improve their knowledge and include the children in learning opportunities. This year educators in conjunction with the committee are developing a much needed draft sustainability policy to implement new ways to reduce waste and extend practices that have already been implemented.

OSHC has also been part of the RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) working party building opportunities to engage our community in learning amore about Indigenous Culture and providing inclusion and diversity in the program but also in our school and our local Montessori Kindergarten.

Last year we surveyed families to see the demand and interest for longer opening hours, after much deliberation we have decided that at this stage it will not be a viable/financial process that we can implement in 2020.  However we will review this idea at the end of the year again.

New Members are always welcome and we would love to hear any suggestions, queries or comments from our community.

community events team 2020

Hello and welcome to the Community Events Team news for 2020!

As usual, it’s going to be big - and FUN.

The events you know and love will continue this year, and we are taking suggestions for new ideas to help reflect the interests of our growing and diverse community.

We are also looking for new committee members to help organise BNWPS community events.

Do you have a few hours to spare and/or a special skill you’d love to share with the school? The strong community aspect and interconnectedness are huge parts of why many of us chose to be part of BNW for our children’s primary school years, and having that reflected in our events and team spirit is one of our aims. Beyond the classroom, our regular events provide the opportunity to nurture our sense of connectedness and belonging, while also providing valuable fundraising opportunities.

The major events held each year are listed below - we’d love to know if any of them catches your eye.

Currently, a small team manages these events with the support of many parents and staff who put in time on and around the day. We CANNOT do it without all of you! Our goal this year is to expand the team so we can share the load and focus on making each event the best it can be. Ideally, 2-4 committee members will take the lead to coordinate an event, for example Trivia Night, and ensure everyone gets to do something they’re interested in.

We are looking to add members to our community events team who can:

  • Commit throughout the year.
  • Meet twice a term, generally in the evening.
  • Represent a range of year levels.

We would love to have new members join us for our next meeting on February 18th. There will be treats!

Please email cet@brunswicknwps.vic.edu.au if you have any questions or to express interest in joining and possibly the event you would most like to help coordinate.

Current Community Events Team members:

  • Stacey Roberts (Abby Grade 4, Pepper Grade 2) – current Co-Chair & School Council representative
  • Liz O’Neill (Emma Grade 3, Lucy Grade 1) – current Co-Chair
  • Emily Myer (Gilby Grade 3, Hugo Grade 2) – current Co-Chair
  • Tanya Pittard (Callum Grade 4)
  • Tamsin Downes (Indianna Grade 5, Harper Grade 1)

Major School Events:

Plant and Produce Market (14th February & 20th March)– held twice a term, where cupcakes, cookies, treats, plants and produce donated from families across the school can be purchased. Each year level takes responsibility for running with the support of the Plant and Produce coordinator (Emily Myer).

International Food Night (February 25th) – our first big get together of the year, and a great opportunity for new families to meet others. Families bring a plate to share and enjoy a picnic dinner at school.

Whole School Sports day (Term 1, date TBD) – coordinated by our PE teacher Tom, a fun day of sports action for all kids in the school.

Trivia Night (Term 2, May 23rd) - a night of frivolity, fun and dance floor action for parents/carers and staff, with lots of ways to raise funds for the school.

Commotion (Term 2, June 12th) – the newest of our events, founded in 2019 and led by our music teacher Jack, will be back again, to bring us a family night of music and dance.

Winter Magic Market (Term 3, August 8) – the biggest event on the calendar, attracting large crowds beyond our school community. Rides, music, treats, bar and more! Our most significant contributor to raising funds for BNWPS.

We’d love to hear from you, and look forward to an epic 2020!
