Culture Club - China
We have had two delightful sessions on China so far, led by a dedicated group of mums and participation from Chen Lu’s Grandma, who played the moon guitar during our first session. We were also treated to very cute Lion dancing led by Year 1 twins Drake and Kayden along with their own little band of drummers and dancers that were also from Year 1.
There was so much information to share that it was hard to contain it during our allotted time.
Our students have learned many facts about China so far.
Here are just a few:
The population of China – over 1.4 Billion people, 18.59% of the world’s population live in China
The number of Chinese languages and dialects spoken in China – 8 main language groups and as many as 297 living languages.
Length of the Great Wall of China – 21,196.18 km – this is almost seven times the distance between Sydney and Perth “as the crow flies”.
Number of rooms in the Forbidden Palace – 9,999 rooms
During our second session, the students learned about the different places of interest plus Chinese animals such as the giant panda, the Asian tiger, and the golden snub-nosed monkey.
The Culture Club participants also learned about their Chinese zodiac characters and tried to learn how to write their zodiac animals using Chinese characters. Our young artists also made cherry blossom trees by blowing ink and using their fingerprints to make cherry blossoms. The second session ended with Moon teaching the children a song about two tigers. We were surprised how quickly the picked this song up.
Many thanks to our presenters and artist who planned, presented and ran the first two sessions of Culture Club China.
