Head of Middle School Report

Hello everyone. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun…and even learning new things!

It’s already week seven, which means only four more weeks until mid-year holidays. ‘Time flies’ is a common phrase, and not out of place when referring to Term Two, as there has been plenty happening at Cobram Anglican Grammar.

This term has seen the introduction of Transition Maths, which runs from 3pm – 4pm Friday afternoons for Grade 5/6 students looking to extend their maths skills. This opportunity has been taken up by many students and well done to Mr. Davis, Ms. Leonard and Mrs. Post for their commitment.

Middle School had a buzz to it during May with our open afternoons running on alternate week days throughout the month. I want to make special mention to the students who stayed behind after school to showcase their skills in the Foods room and the Arts room. Parents on the tours made mention of how engaged the students were and the community feeling around our school, something we can all be proud of.

NAPLAN has come and gone and we must congratulate our students on their hard work and resilience on getting through this sometimes challenging period. I believe this resilience and determination towards academic pursuits is being built from the focus students are showing in the classroom.

The second last week of May saw Education Week in full swing where we as a school acknowledged how lucky we are to have access to a quality education. The Year Eight students acted out the book ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ to the whole Junior School and on the Friday students came dressed as a profession they are interested in, Isaac Crawford (surgical dermatologist) and Savannah Kernaghan (chef) were awarded best dressed from Middle School.

Our Middle School Assembly saw many students receive awards and we were treated to a presentation from Cody Lincoln who had designed an amazing webpage using coding. At our School Assembly, Lachlan Rouse presented My Story and WOW, what a performance! After overcoming some initial technology issues, Lachie had the crowd in the palm of his hand. Our Middle School Go For Gold Award winners were Cody Lincoln and Natasha Smith.

The Grade 5/6 students are a tough bunch, braving the five degree Ballarat weather with minimal complaints during their camp. Sovereign Hill and the underground mine tour in Bendigo were the highlights. The Year Eight’s are off to Valley Homestead near Ovens this week and we wish them a safe and enjoyable trip.

Together we are strong.
