SCSA Badminton Division 1 - Results

The day began early in the morning with the Junior, Intermediate, Senior badminton teams and tagging along was the year 11 Sport and Recreation classes gathering outside the Kennedy hall. The bus as planned left at 7:30 am and being the school to host this event, there was an urge of excitement on the way to MSAC.  Arriving at MSAC feeling cold however motivated to represent our school in this SCSA badminton competition, we approached the courts in enthusiastic anticipation.

To warm up our bodies, the sport and recreation classes ran through a warm up session to get our adrenaline pumping. After warming up, the games began with the junior and intermediate teams starting us off. After their great game, the seniors team began with a fantastic start to their first game, which they dominated.

The day was filled with many cherished memories with many victories. Killester finished the day strong with a win from the intermediate team, however, there was an unexpected win for the senior team, grabbing first place by just 2 points.

We ended the day with soreness yet bringing home victory, adding another victory to our winning strike.

Final results

Juniors - Missed making the grand final by 1 point

Intermediate - Grand final Killester VS Sacred Heart Oakleigh. Winners = Killester!

Senior - Grand final Killester VS Mount Saint Josephs. Winners = Killester!

Well done to all girls who participated- it was a great day. And thank you to the Year 11 Sport and Recreation class for their hard work in helping to host the day

Surfing Adventure

Have you ever been surfing before? We did! On the 29 of April the Year 12 Physical Education class along with the Sport and Recreation class travelled along to Smiths Beach in Phillip Island. What a memorable experience it was. Upon arrival, the eager Year 12s climbed out of the bus where we met our enthusiastic instructors, Brianna and Brendan, who distributed wetsuits and surfboards to us. Then we excitedly fumbled our way down to the beach with our large foam surfboards.

Once we arrived on the shore, Brendan gave us a brief but useful lesson on how to steer and stand on the surfboards. Finally, we were able to enter the water. Our excitement overcompensated for the freezing water; that, and our wetsuits. Once we jumped in, brimming with excitement and a little bit of fear, we paddled out to try and catch our first wave of the day. After we caught sight of the wave, it was only a matter of seconds before we felt the pressure of remembering what we had just learnt. The confidence kicked in as we all began to paddle vigorously to catch our first wave. We all played out the steps required to stand on the board. As we unsteadily began to lift ourselves onto our feet, many of us were unlucky and gasped in disappointment as we fell into the ocean. Throughout the next hour in the ocean we all began to gain confidence and improve on our skills.

Overall, it was tremendous experience that we all had. On behalf of the Physical Education and Sport and Rec class we would like to thank our instructors, Brendan and Brianna, and most importantly our teachers, Ms Sadler, Mr Brodie and Maddi for organising a great day.
